Dean and Cas were on a hunt. Cas insisted on going with him, and after a little persuasion, Dean let him go. There was a small nest of vampires, nothing too extreme. Four or five at most.

But Cas slipped up big time.

He made a crucial error, and gave away their cover. The vamps attacked, and they did their best to take them out.

There was one left, and she was sucking Dean dry. Cas chopped off her head, and her body hit the floor.

"Are you okay?" Cas asked.

"I'm fine. Little bitch had that coming." He didn't look too good though. He must've lost too much of his blood.

He tried to walk, but ended up stumbling and falling, Cas catching him as he fell.

"You need to rest. I'll drive, you're in no condition." Cas tried to cover up his worry. Ever since he became human, all of these human emotions started getting the best of him. While some were pleasant, others, not so much.

He got Dean to the Impala and drove him back to the bunker. He had to carry him inside, since he was unconscious. He rested him on his bed, and that's when his emotions kicked in again.

Tears cascaded down his face. This was all his fault. Dean was attacked because he screwed up. He bandaged Dean's wound as best he could, and he sobbed into his chest.

"I'm sorry, Dean! This was because of my mistake! I'm so sorry! I-I love you! Now that I'm a human, I know what this feeling has always been. I love you!" He cried and cried and cried, until he cried himself to sleep.

Dean awoke and felt something warm curled up against him. It was Cas.

Dean was on his back, and Cas had his head resting on Dean's chest, his arm laid across him. Dean half smiled and put his arm around Cas's shoulders.

"Hey, Cas. Hell of a hunt yesterday." He chuckled weakly. He was still a bit out of it. He played with Cas's hair, massaging his fingers through it.

He didn't want to admit his feelings for him, but he couldn't deny them either. He knew Cas was a bit new to these emotions, and he didn't want to overwhelm him.

Cas began to stir and let out a long yawn. His eyes fluttered open and he looked up at Dean. His demeanor went from relaxed to worried in a split second.

"Dean! How are you? Are you okay?" He asked rapidly.

"Calm the hell down, Cas. I'm fine."

"Are you sure? After what I did--"

"What are you talking about, what you did? This wasn't your fault. Look at me, I'm fine. You know me, I always bounce back. Even when I die, I just brush it off." Cas buried his face in Dean's shirt.

"This shouldn't have happened to you. You didn't deserve this."

"Cas, I'm not dying. What's gotten into you? Ever since you became human, you've been so protective over me."

"I don't want you to get hurt. If something happened to you, I wouldn't be able to live with myself. Angel or not, I still consider myself your guardian. And I'm not doing a good job at all."

"You're doing a great job. You still have to adjust to being human, that's all."

"You say it like its nothing."

Dean sighed and wrapped his arms around him. He had to be honest with himself. Cas wasn't the only one being overprotective lately. Dean didn't want to see Cas get hurt either. Now that he's human, he's a lot more vulnerable. That's why he didn't want Cas to go with him on that hunt. He could've been killed.

Cas started quietly crying. Dean had never heard him cry before. He didn't like it. He held him closer, whispering comforting words in his ear.

"Shh, don't cry. It wasn't your fault. I'm fine, Cas. I'm the picture of health."

"I don't want to see you get hurt!" Cas sobbed.

"And I won't. I'll stay safe, for you. I'll never get hurt again. Just to make you happy. And I will never die again. I mean, I've done that so many times already." Dean smiled.

"Dean?" Cas mumbled.

"Yeah, Cas?"

"I think I love you."

Those words made Dean so happy. They made him more than happy. He felt ecstatic.

"I think I love you too, Cas." He kissed the top of his head. He closed his eyes and fell asleep, his little angel in his arms.
