*3RD PERSON POV*
"Is, is everything o-okay?" John asked quietly, his voice barely above a whisper as Penny focused on the screen in front of her while conducting his ultrasound, the feeling in the room one of nervousness and worry as the couple held their breath.

"All of Archie's vitals are looking good..." The doctor trailed off, her eyes still focused firmly on the monitor in front of her as she studied the baby's picture and movements.

"Why am I sensing a but coming lovey?" Freddie spoke up, his hand tightly gripping his love's as he felt dread fill the pit of his stomach. Penny seemed off, like she was hiding something from them as she stayed quiet, almost as if she was afraid of what she was looking at.

"I-Is, is there something wrong w-with him?" John panicked, his heart starting to race now as he too could sense something was off with how Penny was acting. "Is he o-okay?" He asked again, squeezing Freddie's hand as he could feel himself becoming more and more anxious. His baby had to be okay. He couldn't come this far and not be okay. Archie was a little miracle and he was going to get through this, John was praying that he would get through this.

"Penny?" Freddie prompted as she sighed, finally flicking her gaze over to them as she sat up straighter, looking serious.

"Archie's heartbeats aren't as strong as I'd like them to be." She sighed again, a sick feeling quickly seeping it's way into both John's and Freddie's stomachs, the pair of them instantly knowing this wasn't good for their son. "I can see on here that his heart is beating a little slower than usual and if I flick the sound on," She said, pressing the button that suddenly sent the sound of Archie's heartbeats into the room. "you can hear how strained the beats sound." She explained, the poor little one's heart sounding like it was well and truly struggling.

"O-Oh." John gasped, tears flooding his eyes as he stared at the tiny picture of his baby on the screen, Archie's heart only beating every so often as the movements matched the sound in the air.

"Fuck." Freddie whispered, tears in his eyes too as he shook his head, hating that their little man had to go through this. He was strong, but this was something that neither parent-to-be expected to be wrong with their baby boy.

"T-This, this is why he s-stopped m-moving?" John quizzed, Penny nodding as the younger squeezed his boyfriend's hand again, pain aching through his chest.

"H-How do we fix this?" Freddie asked himself, sniffling a little as he tried his hardest to hold himself together for John. "Is, is there something we, w-we can do for Archie? Can, can we make this better?" He questioned, thinking there had to be something that could fix this situation they were facing, not wanting things to only escalate.

"Does, d-does he need to be delivered early?" John added to the barrage of questions the doctor was now receiving, both lads just wanting to help their little one the best that they could and understand where things would progress from here.

"At the moment I would be happy to just keep and eye on and monitor Archie through ultrasounds and connecting you to a machine that will help us as well. This would require you staying in hospital for a few days John, as we'd need to be ready around the clock to ensure we are prepared for an emergency c-section, if that's the route we have to take with this." She explained again, trying to give as much information to the couple as possible without shoving too much in their faces. Penny was worried for Archie, having seen many pregnancies quickly go awry because of foetal distress, and wanted to keep John as calm as she could so there wouldn't be any added strain on the bub, knowing he could go downhill at the drop of a hat. She was comfortable just monitoring his progress for now, not wanting to rush into anything if they could get the issue under control without delivering the little one early. If Archie's heart rate could climb back up steadily, then John could hopefully continue with his pregnancy for the next few weeks until his planned surgery date, giving his baby a little longer to grow and develop. John nodded at the doctor's explanation, willing to do anything to keep his son safe. He knew Penny would do all she could to keep Archie with him for as long as possible and he trusted her with his whole heart to do whatever was needed. He couldn't lose his baby boy, he couldn't. "I just have to step out and have a word with a few of the other doctors about setting you up in a room with some of the monitoring equipment, but I'd like to keep you in here for now." She said seriously, taking the ultrasound wand away before wiping the cool gel off John's belly.
