A Walk Home - 30 year ago
Pong's first day at UA was bad. A week before school started his father had been diagnosed with cancer. Dark circles rested under his eyes as he walked home with his friend, David.
"You know they're going to figure out sooner or later that you're quirkless, David." He said.
"Yeah, I know. I'm just kind of hoping they see my potential before they kick me out." David sighed. "It's not like I haven't dealt with this before."
"You lied on your admission forms, and you lied to you're parents." Pong said. "I'm not sure this is the best way to 'deal with it'."
"As if you aren't lying on your quirk forms too. You're way more powerful than you claim to be, Pong." Pong fell quiet. David was right, but at least he had a good reason.
"I still can't believe your parents believed your acceptance story. UA changing the rules for you? Everyone knows they don't allow quirkless kids to enroll. I thought they were smarter than that."
"I know, I was almost disappointed when they didn't call my bluff. Especially my dad." David's father was a business man, and sharp as a tack. "I lied about it in junior high, what's the difference now?"
"The difference is you could get in big trouble now, David!" Pong was worried about his friend. And his dad. He really didn't handle stress well. The pair stopped walking.
"Hey, I'll be okay. You don't have to worry about me, I'll figure it out. You, on the other hand, need my help." David placed a hand on his friend's shoulder.
"I do?"
"Yes, you do. You need sleep, and a prestigious school like UA is going to quickly fill up your schedule. I am here to remind you to go to bed on time and rest!" He playfully punched Pong's shoulder. "No, but for real, you need a nap. The astronauts can see your eye bags from space."
"I will! I will!" Pong relented to David, knowing he would never get him to shut up about his dark circles otherwise.
"You promise?"
"Yes, I promise." David nodded in satisfaction.
"Good, it's about time you listened to me."
