You winced. The cut stung and ached, the blood slowly pushing through the slice of your arm. It trickled down towards the candle.

Then it fell.

One drop.

Two drops.

Three drops.

When you breathed out, the ship rattled.

Thunder split the sky in half, so loud that your ribs shook. You couldn't hold back a scream, the candle exploding into a pillar of fire in front of you. You were pulled back, a body covering yours and holding you down against the deck.

You could hear voices yelling in chaos around you, but they were weak compared to the thunder that was still rolling across the sky. You couldn't look up to see what was happening, your body still pinned to the ground.

You looked over your shoulder to see who was holding you there.

Taehuyng smiled back at you, petting your hair in reassurance.

"I'm here, dove. Don't worry."

"What's happening?" you asked.

He took in a breath. "Redemption."

Suddenly there was a long, low gasp in the air. It turned into a chorus of gasps, growing louder and louder. It sounded like the gods of the sea were trying to suck the air out of the sky.

Taehyung's warm hands brushed against your hair as he shushed you and told you to remain calm. You could barely hear him over the gasping sounds and the pounding of your heart in your ears.

"What the hell is that!" you heard Jungkook cry out.

You couldn't help but look towards the pillar of fire, where the candle used to be. Now, there were teal and gray gusts swirling around the flames, winding tighter and tighter until it choked the flames completely. The flames burst through the ring of figures; the pillar shooting even higher in the air, breaking through the clouds. Jimin grabbed Jungkook by the neck and threw him down, his eyes shifting to you quickly and then to Taehyung. He nodded to you, as if he was trying to console you, but then turned his attention back to the pillar of teal, gray, and fire.

The tower touched the tip of the sky, splitting it in half with white light. The ship lurched underneath you, and you couldn't help but scream again, the jolt bringing air back to your lungs. Taehyung tightened his grip around you, his salty scent releasing some tension in your nerves.

The gasps turned into the sounds of birds - hundreds of birds all at once. The light in the sky began to melt and drip, and before the light fell into the water, it turned into wings and flew over the ship.

"What are they?" you asked Taehyung.

He looked down at you with the smile of a boy on Christmas day. "The sirens."

The wings burst into light and fire, then morphed and stretched until they resembled something related to a human form. They were like angels or human butterflies. It was hard to look away as they swarmed the ship, hissing and crying like birds.
