I'm in my room hanging out with my best friend when out of the blue she asks "Hey so I'm like a week an old friend of mine is coming back from overseas. Can you come with me to the airport to pick her up?" I give her a confused look at first then before I can begin to talk she says "Pleaseeee I don't wanna go alone." "Ok ok I'll go with you. Have I met her before?" I give in not really minding joining her. "Umm no. But I think you've heard of her before." She says as she goes back to scrolling on her phone. She then takes my laptop to choose the next YouTube video we were gonna watch.
As the week went by I would ask random questions about this person who we were gonna pick up that was also a stranger to me to mentally prepare myself. I'm not the best with new people, quite quiet actually. My best friend would repeatedly say I would do fine and that that person and I actually had quite a lot in common, which eased my anxiety a bit.
On the day that we went to the airport my best friend and I got into my car and agreed that she would choose the songs going there but I get to choose when we were driving back. We jammed out to songs while I drive and occasionally my best friend would complain that she's hungry so I threw a pack of gummy candy at her which didn't faze her whatsoever cause she was happy that she got food.
When we got to the airport my palms were a bit sweaty cause I was afraid I would be very awkward but my best friend assured me that I'll be fine and that we had each other. While waiting I asked what the flight number was. When I saw that the flight was coming He Netherlands my eyes widen cause it made me think of my crush, Marth. I gave my best friend a suspicious look and she looked at me knowingly cause she knew who I was thinking about. I then blushed and laughed it off knowing it definitely wasn't what I was thinking. We then walked to baggage claim to wait. I was looking at all the people coming through not even knowing who I was looking for. After a while more and more people were at the belt collecting their bags and a very tall girl with short hair that looked very familiar caught my eye. When she turned and I saw her face my heart stopped and my eyes widen a bit. "Remember to breathe." My best friend says beside me. I then look over at her and at Marth again and back at her and back at Marth in disbelief. When I fixated my gaze on Marth again she smiles my way and waves and me still stunned didn't do anything but my best friend next to me waved back at her. When Marth got her bags and came out she went to hug my best friend while I just stood there stunned still not knowing how to react.
"Hi Y/N! Nice to meet you." Marth says to me. I open and close my mouth a few times then manage to say "Um Hi..I..Um..what is happening rn?" I then look over at my best friend who is laughing at my reaction and ask "You planned this?!" I say still in shock. "Well we both did but I did DM her first." She says gesturing to both her and Marth. I then look over at Marth again and took note of the actual high difference, "So this is what 23cm taller looks like in real life.." I mumble to myself but I'm pretty sure they both heard me. "Um sorry..um..can I hug you?" I ask shyly. "Of course!" Marth exclaims pulling me into a hug and it's like all my awkwardness melted away. The hug felt so comfortable, so warm, so safe, so right. When we pull away we look into each other's eyes as if in a trance but it got cut off by my best friend squealing "OMG you two are too cute!" We both look at her with a 'thanks for ruining the moment look' but then shake our heads and laugh. I then notice how we both reacted the same and gave my best friend a 'did we just?' Look and she gives me a slight nod. "I told you, you guys would have things in common. Now come on, I know you want to share your music with her!" She exclaims leading us to my car. I blush in response at just being exposed. And I knew that she'll embarrass me more for sure. As we walked Marth puts her hand in mine and I blush profusely still not really believing what was happening.
