The school dance was in a week and I didn't have a date. A girl named Marth that I talked to a few times but not enough to get close to each other had winked at me anytime she caught me looking her way but I never thought much of it. Sure whenever she did that my heart would flutter but I just thought she was probably just flirting and it meant nothing to her. I was at home right now thinking if I was gonna go to the dance or not either I tag along with friends who already have dates or I would just not go. It was already 3am and I had yet to sleep but I could t stop thinking about the dance and how it might go if I went with Marth. I hated that I even thought of the impossible but I couldn't help it. I was so tired that I just recklessly decided to send an audio message to Marth. "Hey Marth erm its Y/N from most of your classes, I know we don't talk much but Umm... I know you probably already have a date but I'm just gonna wing it and ask..will you go to the dance with me? It's ok if you already do just at least reply even if you reject me." I say all that and before I could ponder on the thought of to send it or not, I sent it. I then turned off my phone and threw it to the other side of my bed. In the matter of seconds I hear my phone buzz and my panic pauses abruptly. I look at my phone but to my disappointment it was just a Twitter notification. I sighed frustrated at myself for getting myself so worked up. Eventually the stress of the situation tired me out and I fell asleep. Next morning it was a Saturday and I was woken up way too early to my door bell ringing relentlessly. I get up with a groan and shouted "I'll be right there!" I sleepily walked to the door rubbing my eyes so ready to get back into bed. When I finally open the door thankful whoever it was didn't knock again and was patient. To my surprise it was Marth who looked like she was trying to catch her breath and I was instantly awake wondering why she was here. "Um..." I was about to ask why she was here but she cut me off by holding a finger up as if to say wait. When she caught her breath she said "Honestly I was wondering when you would ask." She says vaguely. "Ask what?" I ask still half asleep from sleeping so late. She then takes out her phone and plays something. As soon as I hear my voice my eyes go wide in realisation, "Okok I get it pls stop the audio! Wait so what is your answer exactly?!" I say getting flustered hating listening to my voice. "My answer is yes I'll go with you!" Marth says confirming and I almost jump for joy but stop myself from getting embarrassed. "Wait..did you run all the way here just to tell me your answer?" I ask not knowing why she would. "Hehe yea just thought I would tell you in person." She says suddenly getting all shy. Well this is a side to her I probably would never see in school. "Hey um..wanna come in?" I ask wanting to be polite even though on the inside my heart was beating like crazy. "Yea sure." She says with a smile that struck my heart even more.
~ skip to the dance ~
Marth and I walk into the dance arms hooked and I couldn't be happier and Marth just wanted to show me off. I don't see how she thinks I'm the prettiest girl she has ever seen like she has told me multiple times but her smile and her being happy meant so much more to me. The week before this dance and after I asked her she came over and we hung out and got to know each other and now we're closer than ever. She even asked me to be her girlfriend. I felt so at home in her arms. One of the popular girls then comes towards us and looks me up and down with a scowl on her face and says rolling her eyes "Urgh you rejected me for this piece of trash?" "Watch your mouth bitch!" Marth growls pointing her finger in her face. "I rejected you cause I wasn't interested, besides I already knew who I was gonna take." Marth smirked at the end then looked at me. I blush knowing she loved talking about me well that's what I've heard from a few of her friends. I looked up at the popular girl confidently and smiled knowing with Marth at my side I felt almost invincible. The popular girl then scoffed and walked away.
