"Hey, baby! There you are!" Rosie spoke excitedly, voice a little higher than usual from the happiness she felt upon seeing you walk through the door. You heard the dialogue of the movie stop, meaning she'd paused it.

Your back was turned but you could hear her bare feet on the floor and you would've bitten down on your lip at that moment if it wasn't feeling so sore. You felt her fingers on your arm and she hugged you from behind.

"You okay? You're awfully quiet. Usually, you get home and you're a chatterbox." She teased and playfully tickled your side, but she stopped immediately when she heard you wince. "What is it?"

"Nothing." You tried to say, but your words didn't fall from your lips the way they usually do. She tried to get you to turn around but when you didn't she moved to stand in front of you. Her heart dropped and her eyes went wide when she noticed your swollen lip.

"Y/n? What happened?"

"Nothing,"

"Clearly something did! Your lip is busted and you're bruised!"

She remembered the wince that had fallen from your lips moments prior. She quickly but carefully lifted your hoodie by the hem, gasping in shock when she lifted it to see bruises on your ribs.

"Nothing, huh?" She asked with a worried expression. "Tell me who did this to you."

You were silent for a moment, simply staring at your feet. But she took hold of your hands and gave them a gentle and encouraging squeeze.

"Some girls."

She let out a sigh and led you into the kitchen. She had you sit at the table and grabbed some ice. She wrapped it in a towel and carefully placed it against your lip. "Hold it there, baby girl." She whispered sadly and when you did she was quick to check the bruises on your ribs and search your face for any.

"Looks like you're getting a black eye." She sighed. "Tell me what happened."

You stayed quiet, not really wanting to talk about it.

Rosé went to brush a lock of hair behind your ear, fingertips accidentally brushing against your cheek causing you to whimper and squeeze your eyes shut.

"I'm so sorry, baby. I didn't mean to."

You just nodded your head wordlessly, letting the silence hit the air. You could feel her worried eyes set on you, looking you over. Every bruise she saw on your body broke her heart and she couldn't help the shaky breath that fell from her lips, her heart breaking in her chest.

"I heard some girls talking about you. They were saying some really mean things." You spoke quietly, daring to look at her to find her frowning. "I swear I didn't hurt them. I wouldn't ever. But I tried to stand up for you and,"

"Y/N," she sighed sadly and took your hands. "You shouldn't have."

You stared at your intertwined hands, unsure of what to say or do.

"I'm not mad, baby. If that's what you're thinking. I appreciate you wanting to stand up for me, but not at this cost. Not if it means you getting hurt. I'd never want that for you." She explained as she brushed her thumb along your knuckles softly. "I promise you that their words don't get under my skin as much as they used to. I can take it, especially if it means that you're staying safe and unharmed. I love you. I don't want you getting hurt, not ever."

"I'm sorry."

"It's okay. I know you care and I love that about you." She spoke, sending you a small smile. "But I also love knowing you're safe. No names could ever hurt me as much as seeing you hurting like this does."

You nodded slowly, closing your eyes and leaning into her touch when she gently laid her hand on your cheek. You leaned forward and hugged her loosely, wincing when she tightened her grip like she usually does.

"Oh, shoot, baby. I forgot. I'm sorry."

"It's okay." You assured, smiling as big as you could against the skin of her neck. "It's worth it if it means I get to be in your arms."

She kissed your forehead softly, hoping it wouldn't take long for you to feel better.
