Rosie let out a small scream as she sat up in bed. She was panting, beads of sweat running down her forehead as tears welled up in her brown eyes.
The nightmare she had was so vivid, so terrifying that even as she lays awake she still feels the fear rushing over her like she's never felt before.
She struggled to breathe and, in a panic, began to reach around for you in bed.
"Y/N? Y/N? Where are you? Y/N?" She muttered as she gave up on feeling around for you, turning the lamp on and shaking you awake instead. "Y/N wake up."
You groaned as she continued to shake your shoulder. You opened your eyes but closed them again when you noticed the light was on.
"You're okay?" Rosie whimpered and the sound of it, as well as the crack in her voice, made your eyes open wide.
You noticed her hovering above you, tears in those usually big and bright brown eyes of hers. She looked so afraid.
"Hey," you whispered softly and sat up, instantly pulling her into your arms. She dropped her head on your shoulder and sniffled as she breathed in your comforting scent. "It's okay. What happened?"
"I had a bad dream." She cried. "I just got back from tour and you were coming home from work. I set everything up so nicely, planned on spoiling you with some good food and anything else you wanted. But then... I got the call that you'd been in an accident. You were hurt terribly and they said that you might not make it," she paused as she cried against your neck again. "I got scared."
"Oh," you whispered and rubbed her back soothingly as her tears fell to your skin. She was so shaken up, trembling in your embrace as she clutched your shirt in her hand.
"I was so, so afraid, y/n. I'm sorry I woke you but I had to know you were okay!"
"That's alright, baby. I don't mind." You said as you gently brushed your nails along her back. "I'm okay, baby. I'm just fine." You promised and kissed her head lovingly. "Look at me, pretty girl."
She lifted her head and her lip trembled as her teary eyes met yours.
"I'm here. See? Right here. I'm holding onto you, my heart is beating against yours, I'm safe and sound and so are you. You don't need to be afraid. I'm right here and I'm not going to let you go."
She hung her head with a shaky breath before nodding.
You gently lifted her chin with your hand and brushed your thumbs along her cheeks to wipe away her tears. They continued to fall but not as much as before.
She looked shaken up still, but the fear had faded. The only thing scaring her now were the memories of the terrible dream that lingered in her brain.
"Rosie, everything is going to be just fine. It was all a bad dream, just a really terrible dream."
"I know." She said with a shaky sigh. "It was scary. It really freaked me out."
"That's understandable. I'd be just as scared if I'd dreamt that about you. But I'm right here with you in our bed. None of that was real. None of it is ever going to be real."
"Okay." She whispered and intertwined your hand with hers. "I don't think I'm going to be able to sleep anymore tonight. Will you hold me? Can we watch something together?"
"Of course, my love." You smiled and laid down before pulling her into your arms.
She put her head on your chest and gave your neck a few kisses, bringing both of you some comfort. You turned on her favorite show and held her tight, placing kisses across her head as she began to calm down a little.
You wouldn't dare let go of her. You'd be right there to remind her that everything was just fine for the rest of the night if she needed you to. You were happy to lay right there holding her as tightly and as long as her big and sweet heart desired.
You just wanted her to feel okay again.
