You knew something was wrong as soon as she walked through the door. She wasn't wearing the smile she usually does when she arrives home and sees you sat on the sofa, waiting for her. She had a sadness in her eyes that she couldn't hide, even if she tried.

"Rosie? Everything okay?"

She shook her head as she sat down beside you. She took the remote and turned off the tv so she'd have your full attention.

"You know how much I love you." She started to say, trying to blink away the tears in her eyes. "It really pains me to say this but we need to break up."

Your heart nearly stopped. At first, you thought it was some kind of joke. You even chuckled a little, thinking she was just pulling some sort of mean prank on you. But the tears in her eyes told you that it was really happening. Those words you've always feared falling from her lips had been spoken.

"I don't understand." You mumbled and tried to swallow the lump in your throat, but it only continued to grow. "Why? Did I do something wrong?"

"No!" She said as she took your hands into hers. "No, baby. You did nothing wrong. It's just that some amazing opportunities for the group are coming up and I'm gonna be away more than I'll be home. I'm rarely gonna be home and it's so unfair to you to make you sit around for months at a time, just waiting for me to come home."

"Rosie," you whimpered, throwing yourself into her arms. She instantly pulled you close and held onto you tightly as she could; tighter than ever before. "I don't want that. You know I'd wait."

"I know. I know you would, baby. You're amazing like that." She smiled through her tears, leaning down to kiss your head lingeringly. "But it's unfair for me to ask you to do that. You deserve someone who you can be with when you want and need them the most. You deserve someone who's gonna hold you and love you the way that I can't anymore."

Your heart was shattering, your world crashing down around you.

"You're beautiful and you're so amazing, you deserve someone who can show you off to people. You deserve someone who can give you all the things I won't be able to."

You lifted your head, your teary eyes and puffy cheeks causing her own tears to fall.

"I just want you."

"I'm sorry." She whispered sadly, caressing your cheek. "I want you, too. But I have to let you go. I want you to be happy,"

"Happy?" You scoffed. "You want me to be happy but you're letting me go?"

"Please don't hate me." She whispered sadly, sinking her teeth into her lip. "I love you a lot. More than I've ever loved anyone before. But I have to focus on my job right now and I can't give you the things that you want or need if I'm rarely ever gonna be home."

You breathed out a shaky sigh and leaned into her touch. "I understand. You know I'd never want you to sacrifice your career for me." You sniffled before the silence hit the air, lingering for a long, unbearable moment.

"You're gonna find someone who's gonna give you the world. You deserve that."

You pulled out of her touch and leaned forward to plant a lingering kiss on her cheek; the last one you'd ever be able to give her.

You stood, grabbing your things and walking to the door.

"I feel like I can't breathe. I'm just gonna go. I wish you all the best, Rosie."

She watched you walk out the door and peeked out the curtain where she watched you get into your car and drive away.

She sobbed, already hating herself for saying goodbye. She knew she had to do what was right, but knowing you'd never be back again left an ache in her heart she knew wouldn't ever go away.
