Kenma was afraid of Kageyama. Period. Nothing can change that.

He was scared of Kageyama's fierce aura.

He was scared of how intimidating he was when he went on the court.

He was scared of how he talked so weirdly.

He was scared of the eyes that seemed to capture everything.

He was scared of how he wanted to know Kageyama more.

He was scared of his own interest in Kageyama.

He was scared of his growing interest.

That damned, growing interest.

Why did it have to be so hard!?

The looks that could rival Akaashi's.

The stubbornness that could rival Bokuto's.

The strength that could rival Kuroo's.

The technique and strategy that could rival his own.

Oh how he wanted to talk to him so badly.

Even if it was just a single, small conversation.

Just about volleyball, even if it wasn't his favorite subject.

Just about video games, even if Kageyama knew nothing.

Anything would go if he could just have a word.

He tried to distract himself with the ginger middle blocker.

But his being laid somewhere else.

A king, they called him.

Yes, a king that took him, Kenma, out of his own world to look at others.

They all say, "You never know unless you try."

They all say, "Just tell him, it'll feel better."

They don't have experience.

They don't know how hard it is.

Especially if both are socially awkward.

But he tries.

Oh how many hints he's dropped.

How many times he's tried to open up.

And his heart nearly burst when he succeeded.

He felt energized, strangely.

"I can give you my number, if that's okay."

Those were the only words from Kageyama.

They meant so much more.

His fingers trembled as he sent the first message.

He'll never regret that first message.

The one that led to long chats at night.

The one that led to him teaching Kageyama about video games.

The one that led them to...bond.

He was happy.

So very happy.

Such a new feeling.

An indescribable sensation, he calls it.

As days pass on, it only grows.

Those lingering feelings.

The ones he used to deny,

Now he acknowledges.

One day.

Even if it's far away.

Even in their next life.

He hopes.

He hopes that he can make Kageyama his.

The crow and the cat.

Once enemies.

Now, friends.
