A/n: everyone knows I LOVE siren/mermaid mythology. And last time I did a siren AU it did well so I'm doing another one because fuck you I love those fun little fish people.

Going out on the waves at night was a risk sometimes, shark hours, the dark making it hard to see and unexpected weather are all a looming risk. But on still nights it's peaceful and the best place to be.

Growing up on the beach in a fishing family, you knew the sea like the back of your hand. Tonight you went out on the waves to check out an area you hadn't really been before, off the coast was a small uninhabited island left rather untouched to keep the wildlife alive. You'd heard it was a good fishing spot, but rocky and the waves can be rough on bad days. Hence why it was kind of abandoned.

"Ok, looks pretty still... I can anchor here..." you mumbled to yourself, turning off the engine of your boat and throwing down the anchor.

You turned the boats spotlights on and took a look around the area. Not too far from the shore of the island, the scenery was beautiful.

"Ok... let's see what fish are around here..."

You had crab nets and fishing nets tied to the boat to throw over the side, which you promptly did. Who knows? Maybe you could hit the fish jackpot here and make some extra money. As you sat on the side of your boat and waited, you scanned the scenery over again.

"Hmm... maybe I'll check the island out another day when it's sunny" you mumbled to yourself.

The second the words left your mouth, out of the corner of your eye you saw the still water move. Turning to look at it, you didn't think much of it, fish will splash around all the time. You turned back to your nets for a moment, only to get distracted again by something moving in the water.

Whatever fish that was, it was energetic. This time, you managed to catch a glimpse of some scales. It was kind of hard to see in the dark, but it was definitely blue of some kind. You couldn't make out what fish it was. Glancing down at your watch, you decided to give the nets a little longer. The water was still, and the area was quiet for a moment. But that was once again broken by the sound of something hitting the underside of the boat.

You jumped, startled by the noise. Looking over the edge of the boat, you didn't see anything. But the silence of yo ur confusion was quickly broken once you started to hear something you didn't think you would in the middle of the ocean. Humming.

More like harmonising actually.

Confused you looked around, not seeing anything in the darkness. You grabbed your torch and turned it on, shinning over at the land in hopes of finding the source of the noise. But the beach was empty, so we're the rocks.

Random harmonising in the middle of the ocean... that's something straight out of a fairytale. It sounded male, very gentle and calming.

"What in Neptune's name..." you muttered, still looking around.

You turned to the other side of the boat, and shone your light at it. To your surprise, you saw hands hanging onto the edge of the boat. Stunning back in shock and almost falling into the water in the process, you grabbed onto the poles of the shade cloth, dropping your torch in the process.

It landed in the water, sinking into the deep.

"Shit-"

When you turned back to the edge of the boat, the hands were gone. Did you really just see that? Or were you hallucinating or something? Your spotlights were bright enough to see your boat, but not enough to hit the water. It couldn't have been a light trick on the waves could it?
