You never really liked bars, or pubs. Which was ironic because you were literally a wine critic. That was your whole job, taste the wines and write reviews. You much preferred a restaurant or winery over a bar. But, reviewing the selections was part of the job. So you sat at the bar of the newly opened club with a notebook, pen and glass of wine. Taking notes on the menu, pricing, portions etc. this wine wasn't the best you'd ever tasted, but it wasn't awful. A solid 7/10. Could be better, isn't so bad you spit it back out.

It wasn't your job to review the clubs themselves, just the drinks they served. But you didn't really like the vibes of this place, it was too dark and full of mainly older men... which for someone young and pretty like yourself was a bit unsettling. But, you needed to get paid. So you sucked it up and went into the bar to sample the wine selection. You'd never get drunk, that was bad news. But you'd get a few sips of each of the best bottles available to get a general idea of what they were like.

Jotting down your score, you then reached for the glass next to you. Only to have someone grab your wrist and stop you.

"Don't! It just got spiked"

You jumped at the sudden contact and turned to find a man around your age who seemed very out of place in such an environment having been the one to stop you.

"What? Who?" You asked.

"See him?" He replied, gesturing to a much bigger and older man at the other end of the bar.

You felt your skin crawl. You knew you had a bad feeling about this place. The younger one let go of your wrist, stepping between you and the sight of the older man.

"Sorry, that was aggressive. I wasn't going to let you drink that though" he said, picking up the glass... with only two fingers.

Once he'd picked it up and you got a better look, you noticed the bubbles in it. This wasn't sparkling wine, it was a regular red. Definitely spiked, the younger one wasn't lying.

"Shit dude- I'm not even mad you just saved my ass" you said.

"That man is a suspect... listen don't tell anyone obviously, it'll make everyone panic. But I'm tailing him, he's a suspected kidnapper"

You just stared at the man in shock for a moment. He was taller than you for sure, but he slouched so much it made him seem shorter. He looked very tired, and apparently he'd never heard of a hairbrush. But somehow, he was actually rather pretty. He showed you an ID, a police one.

Ryuzaki was his name, clearly he was undercover if he was wearing nothing but a white shirt and blue jeans. He didn't look like a cop at first glance, but if he was undercover that'd make sense.

"Gods I knew this place gave me bad vibes..." you muttered.

"Why are you here?" He replied.

"It's my job, I'm a wine critic"

Ryuzaki took the spiked drink, slid it closer to him to hide it from sight if the suspect. you watched him take a tiny dropper from his sleeve and take a sample of some of the wine. He was smooth, clearly highly trained in gathering evidence discreetly. From there he reached over the bar to tip the drink out into the sink so no one could drink it at all.

"Apologies again, I'll buy you something else" he said.

"No, no it's ok. I was just about done anyway. The drinks here are ok but not worth it for the money. That and who'd wanna come ti a sketch place like this for mediocre wine?" You replied.

"I know it's sudden and a stressful thing to go though, but you can press charges on this guy if you want. He attempted to drug and assault you, I have the evidence and my eyewitness and probably security footage of the club cooperates. It'd be an open and shut case" Ryuzkai offered.

You glanced over at the suspect, he was talking to someone else at the bar, but had his eyes drifting over to you every so often to see when you'd pass out from the spiked drink. He was out of luck, you'd been at the right place at the right time for a detective to swoop in.

"You said he'd a suspected kidnapper?" You asked.

"Correct, he's already faced assault charges in the past. Why the hell he was let off is beyond me, I wasn't involved in that case. But 3 people around your age have gone missing in the past 5 months from bars around the area. All eyewitness point to him as looking suspicious on the nights of the disappearances" Ryuzaki replied.

Even if somehow the investigators couldn't get the guy for kidnapping, they could get him for attempted drugging and assault, which would at least ensure he's put away for a while.

"Charge him, I want him behind bars" you agreed.

The detective cracked a slight smile, like he'd been hoping you'd press charges. He handed you a card, with an email and number written on it.

"I'll put you through to lawyers, email me a full account of the events leading up to when I stopped you from drinking" he said.

"Thank you" you replied, taking the card and placing it into your notebook like a bookmark.

"What's your name by the way?"

"(Y/n)"

You couldn't help but smile, thankful that this detective just so happened to be here at the right time. There was no telling what could of happened if he'd not been there, if you hadn't noticed the drink was spiked... You probably would have encountered Ryuzaki anyway... as a corpse on an autopsy table.

"I'd get out of here, this arrest won't be pretty. He'll likely resist, probably get violent" he said.

"Yeah I'm out, you'll... be ok?" You replied, gathering your things into your bag ready to leave.

"Not my first arrest, I'll be fine" Ryuzaki replied.

Right, he was a detective. He knew what he was doing. One more thank you later and you were out of there, thinking about how lucky you'd gotten the whole way home, and seriously considering getting one of those cup covers...

It wasn't until around a week later after you'd given him that email and gotten sent the contact information for a very high end, and fully paid for, lawyer did you realise just how high profile this case was. You'd seriously just been in the right place at the right time to end up with a role in this case.

It wasn't until a week after that did the arrest of suspected kidnapper of 3 break the news. With one detail you'd not known of the whole time... L was leading this case. The world famous anonymous detective. Suddenly the fact your very expensive lawyer has been paid for made sense, if it was L behind the scenes pulling the strings.

Imagine if that guy who's stopped you drinking that spiked wine WAS L? That'd be so crazy right? The bigger stroke of luck you'd ever received...
