The family situation was tense to say the least.

Thanks to you confronting your dead ex-brother about being Kira while covered in hidden recoding devices, L had all the evidence he needed to prove Light was Kira. He admitted it to you, unbeknownst to him you were recording everything. And since the news broke and he was arrested, the whole Yagami family had been shaken to the core.

Sayu was confused and upset her older brother was a killer, their mother was in a state of shock and denial, and their father? He'd completely shut down. He'd defended Light this whole time, and now he was faced with the proof he was Kira. And you? The eldest Yagami child? You were seething.

You knew, you knew this whole time he was Kira. No one but L believed you, your own family had turned against you the moment you even suggested your little brother was Kira. And now, they were facing the consequences.

You'd admit you felt for Sayu, she was still a kid. She was young, she looked up to her brother, she didn't know any better. But your parents? They're adults. Adults who claimed to be all about justice, your dad was literally a police Chief. And yet they didn't believe you when you came to them with concerns about Light. They didn't apologise for not believing you after they found out. They had the audacity to try and explain away Lights actions.

You understood finding out your child is a murderer would be difficult, but the shunning and disregard you faced from them had soured you. The whole family had been torn apart.

And in all honesty? You didn't care.

Now shit had hit the fan and you had the power of hindsight, you realised just how much Light was always the favourite child. How you and Sayu got more and more ignored over the years as Light grew up. The favouritism was clear to you now, and so was the strict, unforgiving upbringing.

Luckily you're an adult and hadn't lived in the family house hold for years, so you didn't have to see them outside of you and your dad working on the same case. As soon as the case began and you got closer and closer to L, you'd basically moved in with him.

Not only was L there to support you through your whole family falling apart, he believed you when you told him Light was Kira. He too had a dysfunctional family as a child, so he could relate to you on a level no one else could. Over the course of the case you'd be some so close you'd considered marriage after the case ended.

You lost a brother to Kira, but you gained a soulmate.

The trial of Light Yagami would be extremely long and drawn out to get through every single killing and detail. So while the investigation part of the case was over, there was still a long way to go. Luckily that meant you and L didn't have to be as involved as before. You were the detectives, not the lawyers. So while you had to stay in Japan a while longer to be present for the parts of the trial that concerned you, you could mainly focus on other cases.

L burned through cases faster than he burned through sweets. By day you and him were picking up cases and solving them, by night you were a couple. Spending time doing normal couple things like date nights, lounging around in front of a movie, going out places, some uh... less than holy activities. You felt normal with L, which was odd to say because neither of you were very normal people. But life with him was just how it should be. You worked together on something you loved, solving crimes. And you showed affection with day to day domestic life and simply being around each other.

You'd gone to bed that night after going out for dinner together to try out a new restaurant that opened up and had amazing reviews. L particularly liked the desserts of course, but had eaten so much of it he'd put himself in a a good coma. Good, he needed more sleep.
