L x Reader oneshots 1 // series 3 • Death Note

Dream land

A/n: because ethereal is almost TWO YEARS old holy shit, I've decided to treat those who stuck around to a little oneshot set in the ethereal AU. So best go read that first if you haven't.

Becoming a god wasn't just powers and cool wings, there were a lot of day to day changes L had no idea would happen. One of them was the trippy detail of having very very clear dreams. It was almost like you'd actually been transported into another world or something.

L's insomnia never really went away after he became a god, but being up in the highlands with the Kami meant he could just go ask Hypnos to put him to sleep when he got tired.

But being under one of Hypnos' spells made those dreams even more wild...

"You had Hypnos put you to sleep again didn't you?" You asked, floating before L.

"Yeah... I was tired ok?" L replied.

"Well... at least it's US in the same dream together and you didn't end up in one of the other Kamis dreams. That would be awkward"

"Yeah I don't think I need to know what Aphrodite or Dionysus dreams about..."

Probably something involving drunken love rituals honestly... but alas, here you both were floating in the now familiar world of the dream space. It wasn't a realm per se, more like a a headspace. Slowly the void around you that you floated in began to take shape around you, and a proper dream began to form. The void began to turn a red tinge, and you could feel water at your ankles as the dream space began to fill up.

"What on earth are you dreaming L?" You asked.

"I have no idea..." L replied.

Thanks to this being just a dream, you could still breathe by the time the whole space had filled with water. Water of a red tinge, and dark atmosphere.

"This better not turn into a nightmare" L said.

"Hey look! It's you... well dream you..." you pointed out.

Another L began to form in the water, although this one looked very human. No wings, no deity robes, no ambrosia leaf crown. He was just like he was when you first came to him.

"There's you, you're never far behind in my dreams" L pointed out as a dream version of you dove into the water after L.

You picked him up and swam up to the surface with him. You both followed the dream versions of yourselves up to the surface to see what was happing. And when you reached the surface you recognised where you were.

"Is this the River Styx?" You asked, looking around at the familiar location you'd been to before.

"Am I dead?" L asked, watching dream you try to wake up dream L's limp body.

From what you could see unfolding before you, it's seemed like he was still a human, but died and you'd dove into the Styx after him as he ended up in the underworld.

"Well at least you're following me to the underworld..." L said, not sure what to make of such a dark dream.

Following your dream selves, you watched as dream you pulled L from the river onto the entrance of the house of hades, distraught and desperately trying to wake him up. Dream you picked him up, sobbing and crying. Kicking the doors open you rushed up the halls to the throne room where as usual Hades and Persephone sat.

Dropping to your knees in front of them and crying out, you could hardly believe L's unconscious mind was dreaming all this.

"Please! Please bring him back! I can't loose him again, we still have to catch Kira! Our souls aren't bound yet and if he reincarnates I'll loose him again. Please my lord spare him!" Dream you cried, cradling L's body in your arms.
