L has never liked Light, from the moment he saw him he just knew the man was Kira. But the more he interacted with him, the more he grew to absolutely despise the man.

Sure the high of having a rival almost as smart as you, and giving you a challenge is fun. But when that rival is the worlds biggest dick, it gets old pretty quickly.

God, L could just not contain his rage toward the man. Having to interact with him every day was hell, but it was in order to solve the case so he had to suck it up. But rest assured every moment he was away from Light he was screaming into a pillow in frustration.

The ego, that fucking god complex drove him INSANE. Mr Light 'I can do no wrong' Yagami was the most textbook case of a superiority complex L has ever seen. Every sentence that left his mouth was 'me, me, me'

Oh I can't be Kira! I'm too good for that!

I'm the smartest student in Japan! How could I possibly be Kira?

If I we're leading the case this is how I'D do it!

Shut up, that's all L wanted was for Light to shut up about himself for once. And you know what else annoyed the absolute shit out of him? How he treated Misa.

Sure Misa could be a bit clingy sometimes, but that doesn't mean she should be treated like shit. Light never paid any attention to her, only used her when it benefited him, took advantage of her at every turn. And Misa, being obsessed with him and venerable from her parents deaths ate it all up.

And as if those two points weren't enough, he'd been punched in the face by him, 3 TIMES. He'd quite literally been assaulted by the absolute dickhead.

Pure seething hatred was all L felt for that man. And he wasn't the only one, you hated him too.

Pretty much for all the same reasons L hated him. Being Kira, having a massive ego, treating Misa like shit and assaulting L. But there was one other thing you hated him for that really got under your skin, the way he taunted L.

In any good rivalry there'll be some taunting on both ends. But Light always went too far, light would constantly stir the pot and not know when to stop. There'd been many times where the two would argue and L would be shaking in anger holding back from tearing him to shreds because Light has overstepped a boundary on people.

That made your blood boil. There's nothing worse than a person who uses deeply personal issues against you.

And today, their ongoing rivalry has finally reached a boiling point.

It started with the classic 'I'm not Kira' argument. It happened all the time, but eventually they'd usually drop it to continue work. Not this time though, it seems their temper was shorter than usual today.

"For god sakes Light, can we just DROP this and get back to work? The case won't solve itself" L sighed.

"The case won't be solved at all if you don't STOP accusing ME and look for the REAL KIRA" Light snapped back.

"Oh don't give me that, you know DAMN well what you've done"

This happened often enough that the taskforce didn't even flinch, although slowly they began to notice this argument was going on a lot longer than usual.

"The only thing I've done is try and HELP! And all you do is obsess over me like some kind of stalker" Light snapped.

"You're calling ME the stalker? You're the one always trying to found out my real name! And always trying to find ways to manipulate me into giving away information. Don't think I don't notice that, I'm a detective I can SPOT A SNAKE" L growled.
