A/n: ladies, gents and non binary people. I have decided to re-write my first ever L x Reader oneshot I wrote back in 2016 in my first book about him. It's still up today, if you want to go read it I'd caution you since it's BAD. But I'm now an adult with better skills and I'm going to rewrite it. Enjoy. Bit shorter than my usual stuff since the early ones hits were fucking tiny and barely any content so expanding it into a better written one can only have so much done with it.

God, how long have you been working on this now? It feels like you've been doing reports for years. You couldn't even remember the last time you did take work that wasn't filing papers and filling out paper work. Safe to say you were bored out of your mind. And what do you do when you're bored? Complain.

"Ugh, it feels like I've been filling in papers for decades..." you groaned.

"(Y/n) you know full well it has to be done" L replied.

"Yeah but we've been doing it nonstop for days. Surely we have just take a little break? Make the others do it?"

L turned to face you, temporarily stopping typing to do so. He gave you a tired look.

"I don't know if I trust the others to get this right. You're the most capable one here" he said.

"Why thank you, but still... come on, it's been days. One break, Kira isn't even doing anything at the moment. We can do something else"

"Like?"

"There's a lolly shop down the road"

That caught his attention, everyone knew that if sugar was involved, L was there. Where there's smoke there's fire, where there's sweets there's L.

"Alright" he caved.

"Yes!" You smiled.

Turning back to your computers to save your work, you clicked those buttons at the speed of light eager to get out of the building for a while. L didn't take long either, wanting to go now that lollies were involved. Slipping on your shoes and grabbing your bag, you practically dragged L out the doors. It was bright and sunny outside, L's pale complexion could use some sun. Assuming he won't burst into flames the second the light touches him that is.

You and L were probably the closest ones in the taskforce. There was a mutual respect for one another. You found him interesting and oddly cute, as well as impressive with his many detective feats. And he was thankful for you actually getting your work done and taking the time to understand and he patient with him. None of the taskforce got along too well with him, they found him irritating and their morals clashed. But you understood that not everyone would see eye to eye and at the end of the day, we're all trying to catch Kira here. Plus, again he was oddly cute.

The walk to the lolly shop didn't take long, it being only a few streets down. But once L was in there was no stoping him buying half the shop. Walls lined with shelves of sugary snacks and drinks, as well as dessert themed novelties like lollipop pens and cake shaped stress balls. In the centre was a big buffet style counter with multiple pots of lollies you could scoop into bags to mix and match. How heavy the bag was determined how much it'd cost.

That's where you and L ended up. Each filling up bags with lollies.

You scooped in chocolate freckles, milk bottles, sour watermelon gummies, raspberry clouds, fantails and a fair share of skittles. L went a bit more wild with gummy bares, strawberries and cream gummies, caramels, several lollipops, pop rocks, milko chews, starbursts, blueberry clouds and rainbow straps that were labeled 'unicorn bacon'.

How this man wasn't dying from a sugar overdose you had no idea. And how his teeth were still in tact apart from a slight gap in the front caused by chewing his nails most his life, you didn't know either.

"Goddamn, that enough for you?" You laughed.

"Well I was hoping they had snakes too but apparently they don't. So this will have to do" he replied.

"Should we get drinks as well? There's two for one deals so we can get one each"

You didn't have to ask him twice, he was already over at the drinks fridge before you could even finish. This man and his sugar...

"Hmm... oh- strawberry ramune" he mumbled to himself, examining the options.

"Ooh there's ramune? I'm taking grape" you replied.

Each with drinks and way too many lollies, you paid at the counter and were already digging into the bags on the way back to taskforce.

"Did you get clouds?" L asked.

"Yeah, raspberry. I'll trade you one for a blueberry one" you replied.

"Deal"

Swapping one of your raspberry ones for one of his blueberry ones made you wish you'd gotten blueberry too. But hey, L had them. You could make some trades here and there for more. When you got back to taskforce, you decided to tip your bags out into big bowls to make it easier to dig around for the lollies you wanted. And you also decided to do some trades to share lollies with each other.

Before you knew it you were completely distracted from work, forgetting it existed in favour of talking over a bowl of lollies each and some ramune.

"So... what's with the same clothes all the time?" You asked, popping a sour watermelon into your mouth.

"It's comfortable, and I can't be bothered to pick new outfits each day when I could be using that time and brain power for more important case things" he answered.

"Any time I see a white shirt I think of you now. You've invaded my brain and I associate them with you now"

"Good luck getting rid of that association because I don't plan on swapping colours any time soon" He joked.

Stealing one of his starburst, you giggled at his attempts at humour. His humour was mostly dry and sarcastic but it was in character for him as a person. He wasn't above a shitty pun here and there though.

Hence the 'yes that would be dark' line that made you snicker a bit too loud.

"You know, you're cool L. I wish we didn't have to work all the time because I'd hella love to hang out with you just for fun more often" you said.

"You... would?" He questioned, a little surprised at the comment.

"Yeah, I like you. You're quite the character but it's intriguing and fun"

"Uh- thanks..." he blushed, not used to praise.

You reached for your ramune, and in his state of flustered-ness after the compliment his eyes remained locked in you.

Something clicked in his brain right then, and just under his breath he verbalised the thought.

"I could actually fall for you..."
