A/n: I think it's about time we did something for the men. I know there's not a lot of you compared to the girls in the x reader space, hence why most of the time the reader in these is AFAB. But for the few of you out there, here's one for you.

You know the moment when you take one look at something and realise you're fucked? Well that's what happened when you met L. You walked into that hotel room with the taskforce and the moment you laid eyes on him, you knew you were fucked. Why? Because he was SO fine. Your gay little heart practically did a backflip. This tall, dark haired, deep voiced twink of a man had you glancing across the room at him and listening to him ramble all doe eyed like a teenage girl with a crush on the popular boy at school. Except you were both grown men. You had no idea what he was sexuality wise, and you didn't particularly flaunt yours around as much as yiu wished you could. It was the fact your whole team was older Japanese men with wives and kids that made you stay relatively quiet about it. It was 2006, progress had been made yes, but you could still catch some heat for being too 'flamboyant' around the older generations. But you were pretty sure they did all know you were gay, after the topic of wives and kids came up several times and each time you'd say 'that's not really what I'm looking for'. But L? With his investigation skills he probably knew what you were. But you had no idea what he was. You just had to yearn silently and hope he partook in the sucking of a particular type of lollipop sometimes.

And he was so... weird. You liked that in a man, pretty but weird. He was an enigma of a man, one that had you silently yearning.

You kept things as professional and normal as you could, this was the Kira case after all. You really shouldn't be thinking about how caked up he was under those jeans, you had a supernatural serial killer to catch. But it was hard to focus when L just talked and talked, with his soothing voice and pretty face.

And apparently your behaviour had become noticeable. Although you should have known L would pick up on something sooner or later, he was L after all. Nothing got past him. So when he stopped you from heading home for the day to talk about something for a moment, your mind raced with possibilities. Did he catch on? Did he care? Or were you just overthinking and this was about the case? Whatever it was you weee about to find out.

You stood leaning against the door, having closed it back up when he stopped you from leaving. He stood before you, he would be taller if he didn't slouch so bad, so you were the only slightly looking down at him. But as usual, his gaze felt like he saw right through you.

"What's up?" You asked, trying to seem as casual as possible.

"You're showing unique behaviour toward me, not anything threatening as far as I can tell... but I'm often told I'm bad at social cues..." he replied.

Ah, so he HAD noticed your longing gazes? Oops.

"Uh- unique behaviour?" You slightly stammered, trying to fight off the pink wanting to dust its way over your cheeks.

"You pay awfully close attention to me even when the situation doesn't call for it. And you seem to have a habit of looking my way at seemingly random times for no apparent reason" L explained.

"I... do? Shit- s-sorry I guess?"

Unsure exactly how to go about this situation, it made you slightly tense. You hoped you weren't accidentally making him uncomfortable or something, but it seems like he didn't really know why you were acting this way. For once, he was stumped about someone's intentions.

"Is there something about me you... find intriguing? Or, strange perhaps?" L asked.

You were silent for a moment, given his lack of social skills, it'd be best to just be straightforward and honest so he doesn't start suspecting you of being Kira or something. But gods, admitting it would be embarrassing. This wasn't how you'd have hoped to confess feelings of affection.

"You... want the blunt truth?" You asked.

"Yes" he replied, no hesitation.

You sighed, time to bite the bullet.

"I... am attracted to you" you admitted, slightly cringing at yourself for getting into this predicament in the first place.

He's silent, his computer like mind processing the words he'd never heard directed at himself before. He felt like a windows error message had just popped up in his mind and now he was waiting for the program to respond again. For a moment you panicked, thinking he was about to take it badly, kick you out of the taskforce or something.

"O-oh! That's... not what I was..." he stammered, stunned.

"S-sorry is that weird?" You replied.

"No, no! I just... wasn't expecting... I mean I knew you were gay, that was easy to find out. But me?"

Of course he knew. You weren't even going to question how he knew, he probably managed to find your 'am I gay' quiz search history from when you were 14 and connected the dots from there.

"Yeah, you're kinda my type. S-sorry is this weird?" You asked.

"No... just... unexpected. I've never had anyone find me attractive, let alone another man" he replied.

You knew everyone had their own preferences and all, but anyone who couldn't see how fine this man was, was blind. He seemed to process the information again, this time his brain lagging less as he started building potential outcomes and possibilities in his mind on how to handle this. On one hand, he was basically your boss and it'd be very unprofessional to have any kind of relationship beyond working. On the other hand, he wasn't a normal boss, this wasn't a normal taskforce situation and he wasn't sure if something like this would ever happen again.

"I'm not going to pretend I know anything about... interpersonal pair bonding, but I'm not opposed to the idea if that's what you mean" he added.

"Wait- so you're-" you began.

"Quite frankly I couldn't care less for labels but yes, men are an option in my mind"

SCORE! L was on your side of the fence, or at least partially. Whatever it was, it meant you had a chance.

"I wouldn't call this a relationship, at least not yet. But I won't deny or attraction and won't pretend you aren't attractive either" he said.

"Well fuck me sideways, didn't think you'd be open to anything beyond a professional working relationship" you chuckled.

"I may be, but I don't think I need to tell you that the taskforce probably won't be pleased. Maybe not so much the queer part, but the fact we're working on such a dangerous case together part"

"Yeah, best whatever we do, it stays between us" you agreed.

You couldn't stand around much longer, you had a train to catch. As much as you'd like to drag L out on an impromptu date, it'd have to wait for another day. But that didn't mean you couldn't pull another little move on him.

"I gotta go, I have a train to catch. But we can... discuss this further later" you said, picking up your bag again.

"Oh yes, I understand. Don't miss the last train and end up stuck in the city" he replied.

You turned to open the door, stepping out and as you turned back to say goodbye, you took his shoulder and pulled him closer. Leaning down, and placing a kiss in on his cheek. He froze up for a moment, blushing profusely.

"I'll see you next week" you said.

It was a rare sight to see him smile, but along with the blush across his pale cheeks, a shy smile crept onto his lips.

"Yeah... I'll see you next week"
