You felt like the mythical Cassandra sometimes. Given a gift, one so powerful that no one actually believed you.

Ever since you were a child, you'd have these 'episodes'. Brief moments where you'd stop whatever you were doing and be struck with a prophecy. Sometimes it'd come as a vision, sometimes you could hear it, other times you could smell or taste it. But for at the very most, a minute, you'd be struck with knowledge of the future or something previously unknown. And just as quickly as it came, it'd go. And you'd be left with knowledge that you could either use to try and stop something from happening, or sit back, and watch it happen.

But no one ever believed you. Because it sounded absolutely insane, and you'd never been given a prophecy that couldn't be explained away with some other explanation. Most your visions were of mundane things. Or things that really weren't your business to begin with.

What team would win a game, that someone was planning a surprise party, the weather next week being bad, that a friend or family member was pregnant. Things that you'd usually just stay quiet and watch pass, because no one would believe you foresaw it... it was just 'a lucky guess' they'd say.

That was, until you were struck with a strange, scary vision. You were going about your usual day, getting ready in the morning when you were struck with the sudden image of a man with black hair, in an office like building, suddenly keeling over dead of what looked like a heart attack. It caught you off guard, you'd never seen a vision like that before, one so... dark. You simply stared into your mirror for a moment, processing what you'd just been shown by... the universe? The fates? Who knows who was behind this... perhaps you were meant to be the next oracle of Delphi, gifted by Apollo. But something went wrong and you ended up a normal person very far away from Delphi.

You shook the shock away though, you'd never seen this man in your life. You had no idea who he was so there was no way you could do anything about it. Chalking it up to another 'sit back and let it pass' prophecy, you simply continued to get ready, if not a little unnerved. Plus, you had to focus. Today was important. You'd be meeting the worlds greatest detective for the seemingly impossible task of catching Kira. You had to look put together, stay professional.

By the time you were ready and off to work, you'd already pushed the vision to the back of your mind. You'd had visions before, nothing you couldn't ignore. Even if this one was a bit creepy. And you were much more focused on the fact you were about to meet quite possibly the smartest man in the world, which was a massive honour and a feat to behold. Not many people could say they saw the great detectives face.

When you met with the taskforce, there was a bit of a wait for everyone to arrive. In that time you simply pondered on what this mysterious detective was like, the recent victims of the killer, and the public growing ever restless about things. And once everyone had arrived, it was into the hotel, following the instructions you were given to make sure no one was following you or anything of the sort.

You got up to the room, knocked on the door and were told to come in. He sounded tired, though you couldn't blame him on a case like this.

When the door opened and you stepped inside, you had to weave yourself past the taller men to get a look at this guy. You'd been wondering all day what the great L would look like. The reputation he had made you envision some wise old man... you definitely weren't expecting what you saw. He was young, no older than 25, tall, overtired in casual clothes with a bad slouch and... wait-

It was him.

The man in your vision. The one you watched die that very morning. It dawned on you like getting hit by a truck... L would be killed by Kira if you didn't do anything to stop it. Every word spoken by him and the taskforce went right over your head as you simply stared in shock and tried to gather yourself without fainting from the sheer whiplash of the situation.

No one ever believed you when you said you could see the future every so often, you'd never had a vision with circumstances THIS dire before, you've never really had to intervene with one before... what did you even do? How did you explain let alone stop this?

But then something else dawned on you about that vision. It was in the first person... YOU were the one watching him die. Unlike your others where you'd see the scene like watching a movie, in third person. You saw him drop dead through your own two eyes. You were THERE, you were close with him, cared about him, and you watched him die.

If you didn't do something to stop this, not only would a life be lost and the Kira case be majorly set back... but you'd suffer the emotional consequences too.

What the fuck did you do now?

"(Y/n)"

You snapped from your daze, L's voice addressing you.

"Are you alright? You look lightheaded" he asked.

There it was... the pang in your heart. The telltale sings of a crush starting to form... good gods this was bad...

"I'm... fine, yeah. Just wasn't expecting... someone my age" you replied, trying to keep your cool.

"I get that a lot, come sit" he simply replied.

Whatever was about to be discussed by the taskforce about the important matter at hand here, catching Kira, was going to bounce right off you. The only thing on your mind right now, was the knowledge that over the course of this case you'd grow to love L... and if you didn't act, you'd be watching him die too.

Maybe you were cursed like Cassandra was... doomed to never be believed when you foresaw heartbreak and tragedy.
