Street fashion was all the rage at the moment, particularly popular were Lolita, Gyaru, Visual Kei and all the sub categories of them. Where there's fashion, there's magazines. Where there's magazines, there's models. It was no surprise someone like Misa would get scouted given her day to day gothic style and goals of being an idol. And no surprise she'd get popular fast amongst the fashion and idol culture of Japan. The company she belonged to ran several different magazines for different styles, but the studio was in the same building. So the Lolitas and Gyarus would be casually eating lunch with the Vkei baddies in the break room. That's where you met her, all done up in black and lace. While you'd just gotten into the slouch socks and hibiscus hair clip combo for a spread on casual, easy Gyaru looks. Your styles were complete opposites, but you both had an appreciation for all fashion even if you'd not wear a particular style yourself.
One day Misa disappeared from work for a while, at first you assumed she was just sick and would be out for a week. But as time went on, and she still wasn't back, you began to worry. It took a while for her to respond to your messages, but finally she did and said you should catch up and she'd explain everything. So you set a date, set a place, and when it came time, got all dressed up and met up with her outside one of the smaller, hidden away cafes in harajuku. And it all came out, well, as much as she was allowed to say.
Apparently, she'd been dragged into a police investigation because her manager was slapped with drug charges, and then her new boyfriend was also dragged into it. Wild, you had zero clue there were drugs going around the company at all. Must have been really hidden... although she did seem a bit... cagey on certain things. You just assumed it was because it was an open investigation and she wasn't allowed to say certain things that could potentially jeopardise it. Which was fair enough, neither of you had ever been involved with the law before, so better safe than sorry, right? Luckily for her though, things seemed to be getting back on track. New manager, a role in a movie, back to modelling... and apparently a boyfriend. You didn't even know she was talking to someone until... literally right now. She of course, showed you pictures of him and...ehhh. Not your type. But hey, good for her. The last months would have been a hectic, stressful mess for her. Nice to see she's getting back on track after all of it.
After a nice snack, yap session and some shopping you walked back up to the main entrance of the famous fashion district waiting for her to get picked up. You'd take the train, but wanted to stay with her until she was picked up just to be safe, make sure she didn't get followed by some creep... that had happened before.
"What brands are you set to model next week by the way?" She asked, fiddling with the rosary style necklace she paired with her lacy top.
"All alba rosa, I am SO pumped" you replied.
"Omg even I love alba rosa! The pink and black colour combo they do with their tops is so cute"
"I really hope I get to keep one of the hibiscus jackets, the pink and brown one has been calling my name since they released it"
"You're gonna look so cute"
A car pulled up down the street, neither of you really noticed it until the passengers got out and suddenly Misa was excitedly waving them over.
"Oh! Light! Over here!" She beckoned.
Ah, so that's the boyfriend... yeah not your type. The guy behind him though... the two walked over, Light immediately getting tackled into a hug. He seemed a bit iffy about it, maybe he wasn't into PDA.
"Light, this is my work friend who always has the coolest shoes I talk about. (Y/n), this is Light" Misa introduced.
"A gyaru? My sisters obsessed with them at the moment" he replied.
He seemed polite... but something felt... off. You weren't going to be an ass to someone you just met though, so you'd be polite back.
"It's definitely getting popular with the high school girls at the moment, once she starts wearing slouch socks it's over. You've lost her to the Gyaru brain worms" you chuckled.
"Oh god, she already has" he replied with a chuckle.
The other man, seemingly bored, was quiet. Who even was he? A friend of Lights? Noticing your glance over at him, Misa spoke up again.
"Oh, and that's Ryuzaki. He and Light tied for honour student, so they're like... frenemies" Misa snickered.
"I suppose that's one way to put it..." he muttered.
Damn... he had a nice voice. And his hair was cute too, so fluffy. Honestly he'd make a good emo, maybe even Vkei with some eyeliner...
"Uh oh, endless battle of wits huh?" You joked.
"Endless is right, don't argue with him because he won't drop it" Light remarked, making Ryuzaki roll is eyes.
"Because I'm right, and you're too stubborn to admit it" he replied.
"Oh gods, don't start now" Misa groaned.
The dynamic these three had seemed... kinda funny actually. Even if Light gave you a bit of a bad gut feeling for some reason. Misa seemed to be the moderator between the polished scholar boy and tired looking cute one.
"We better get going, thanks for hanging out (y/n)! We definitely have to do it again" Misa said.
"Yeah totally, we can set a date at work next week. Once we know our schedules for the month" you replied.
"Good idea. Get home safe ok?"
"You too, nice meeting you guys as well"
Once all the goodbyes weee exchanged, you parted ways and went back home. Or in Misa's case, back to taskforce. After she'd taken the time to get all de-gothed and showered, she came back down to the main floor in lounge clothes to see what the plan for dinner was.
"L!" She dragged out his name, coming down the stairs.
"Yes?" He replied, unenthusiastically.
"What's for dinner?"
"Whatever you make, I'm not cooking"
Not like he ever did anyway, maybe she should ask the others. She was about to turn away to do just that, when she noticed what was on his computer screen. Your profile on the companies website.
"Man, you're even doing background checks on my friends?" She said.
"Anyone who comes into contact with a suspect must be checked... although they don't seem suspicious at all" L replied.
"Because they're not, duh. You know that. I think you just wanna see their magazine spreads because you think they're hot"
L was silent for a moment, not expecting to be called out so quickly.
"N-no, I'm looking into them for investigation purposes" he stammered in reply.
"Uh-huh... and investigation purposes includes their cover page shots?" She teased.
Misa wasn't going to deny you were absolutely gorgeous, no wonder L already liked you from that one brief interaction. You suited the style so well, and the fun and outgoing lifestyle that came with it made you so much fun to hang out with. She was sure you could even get grumpy old L to laugh genuinely for once.
"If you order me some food tonight so I don't have to cook, I'll set you two up" Misa teased.
L gave her a glare, not liking what she was insinuating here. That he was a crush. But he did, and he couldn't deny that.
"Fine..." he muttered.
"Ahh! A gyaru and an emo, so cute" Misa giggled.
"I'm not- look, just because I have the hair-"
"Shhh, let it happen. They'll dress you up so cute"
L hated the fact Misa could clearly see he was blushing at the mere thought, the smug look on her face gave it away. Damn his pale complexion... but he couldn't pretend he didn't like the idea of someone else making cute outfits for him. He wore the same thing everyday simply because it was routine and he didn't like waiting brain energy on making an outfit. But if someone else made the outfit for him? He'd not complain. In fact, he rather looked forward to it.
