A/n: this books still not dead. I'm getting requests done very slowly as I juggle two other books. But now case file L Lawliet is done I'll have more time for this book. But for now,,, take something a bit self indulgent.
Key:
(A) - your choice of your alias.
For you, fellow they/them using enbies.

So, first day working for L. You were rather intrigued to know what he was like, you hadn't heard much about him other than his cases. Then again, no one has... apart from the taskforce he had. You were a bit late to the party but he'd hired you as a tech guru that could help with the technology part of the case. Tracking suspects and such. With so much going on he had no time to do it himself and so, you were on the case.

When you filled out the personal details forms once you got hired, you'd left the part about gender blank as you usually did. And you hoped that he wouldn't chase you up on it...

Your last few workplaces weren't exactly friendly toward the idea of you not ticking male or female. The weren't friendly to the idea of your identity at all really, but you need money to live so you ended up just trying as best you could to ignore the misgendering to earn your living. You hoped that at this new job under L, he'd just drop the subject.

Or maybe... he'd accept it?

Your hopes weren't up after your last jobs...

Alas, you found yourself having to go through elaborate security systems just to get into the building. They really took this stuff seriously huh? Well it was the Kira case...

"God how does this work? It's like bloody airport security up in here" you sighed, trying ti step through the scanner again only to have it beep at you.

"Ugh- what do you want from me?"

"Take out your piercings"

The sudden voice made you jump, and you looked around for it only to spot a security cameras and speaker in the corner. So you we're being watched we're you? That's nice unsettling at all... who's voice was that anyway?

"Oh right-" you mumbled, doing as the voice told you and finally being able to pass through the metal detector.

Once your stuff had been scanned and cleared, you picked up your bag and put those piercings back in.

"Far out... I get the caution but damn it's a fortress in here..." you mumbled to yourself.

The third floor, that's where you were meant to go. Now that you'd noticed the security cameras you spotted them in every corner as you walked up the stairs. That taskforce was probably watching you as you walked up to them, it was a bit nerve wracking really. When you finally reached the third floor, you opened the door and were met with a very small number of people to your surprise.

You knew two of them were suspects. Probably the ones that weren't dressed in professional attire. The brunette prep looking boy and goth girl that sat off to the side. You were told to be weary of them in your emails with L.

There were only about 5 detectives, to your surprise. You were aware the taskforce was small but... this small? For the Kira case? No wonder L needed extra help.

And L... the only one he could be was the... tired looking one. MySpace emo lookin- That's really him?

"Detective (l/n), right on time. Please take a seat" he said.

That was the same voice from before, so L had been the one watching you huh? Doing as he said, you took a seat opposite the taskforce admittedly a little nervous.

"Alright, as I said this is our new cyber investigator. They've chosen the alias (a) and will be helping us with all the digital based investigations into Kira. Tracking and tracing and well as hacking, treat them well and introduce yourselves when you can" L explained.
