Asking L

Hey guys! I wanted to do a lil something different here. For those who don't know, I (we lol) am part of a system. I'm the host, so I'm the one whose been writing these oneshots all these years. But it was only around late 2022 I actually became aware of the system and we gained proper communication. It's a long story, but if you want to know it, it's posted in our updates book.

Unsurprisingly, we've had a fictive of L in here for a long time. Since 2015. All these years the way I wrote him, was based on the way he is in our system and I had no idea until I actually met him. I just thought I was weird and had 'imaginary friends' and some of them were characters I liked.

Out of sheer curiosity though, I decided to ask him a bunch of stuff about how he views the fandom and fanfics etc, so I figured I'd share it. I wrote everything down, and saved this chapter so when he ended up fronting a few days later he could fill it out.

Do keep in mind that fictives while yes, are the characters they're based on, aren't carbon copies since they have to adapt to living in a body that's not theirs with a bunch of other people, all the symptoms that come with it, sometimes there in entirely different countries and time periods too. So while our L is very close to his canon counterpart, there are some differences.

That being said, let's get into it.

Give us the basics my dude.
I'm 25, the co host and primary protector, a fictive and father to two of the teenagers. So quite a prominent system member. I don't care for pronouns, any are fine.

Do you like your source?
As a show and piece of literature, yes. It's amazingly well done for its time and raises plenty of questions about the broken justice system and what justice truly is.
But as a universe? No, it was a traumatic experience living through that case and the people involved in it.

Do you like the fandom for it?
Hard no. As much as I love the dedication, the talented artists and writers etc, the culture it came from (early 00s otaku culture) is not a very healthy one. There's a lot of harmful shipping, very toxic and pointless discourse, people tend to think they're 'intellectual' because they understand Death Notes message. A lot of 'I'm 14 and so mature and eddy for liking this gothic show' attitude.

It's not the fans themselves I dislike, it's the culture of the fandom. I very much appreciate the fans hard work and talent, I just wish they'd stop shipping me with a teenage abusive serial killer and arguing over weather or not Near and Mello are good or not (they are btw).

Do you ever engage in the fandom?
I kind of have to with you writing all this fic you bloody simp.

But for real, occasionally I will. I get morbidly curious. But I always have to tread carefully to avoid the triggering stuff.

Do you think the fandom portrays you correctly?
No. I think it mostly comes from a place of ignorance though. It's not their fault. There definitely are people who get it right, don't get me wrong, but this 'aggressive daddy dom ceo alpha' image so many people give me is so wrong. They think because I'm very flat and 'emotionless' I must be this brooding force, this powerful, secretive, possessive figure.
I'm just autistic and bad at expressing my emotions, that's all. And I don't think people can accept there's a main character that's very blatantly and heavily autism coded.

Canon me is pathetic, and that's ok. Sure I have a powerful job with lots of connections. But I also have no friends, no experience with love, no interests outside of true crime and sugary foods. I'm so locked onto my special interest and autistic enough to need an adult with me (Watari) almost 24/7. I'm no force to be reckoned with. I'm a shut in who happened to have a good job. And a little fruity, since you know, I'm a canon cross dresser haha.

Do you think canon you is a good person?
No. I think my intentions were good, but the execution was bad. The whole 'end justified the means' mentality is flawed. But I had absolutely nothing to loose so I didn't have anything holding me back. My morals now as a person in a system have significantly changed from my canon counterpart. Canon me was misguided, I did bad things trying to make good of them. Light was absolutely the worse one 100%, but I'm not innocent either.

Do you like all the fanfics?
Yours? Yes. Because you actually get me haha.
In general it depends on how the writer views and portrays me. There's a lot of 'I'd never say that' when I read fic. But occasionally I'll find someone who gets me so well I wonder how they managed to see the inside of my brain like that. In the context of AUs I think there's some more leeway in how I'm portrayed since I have to fit a universe that has thugs like magic or a different timeline.

What's something people never expect from you?
That I actually like fashion. I don't know why, I'm canonically into Misas fashion work. But I guess my one outfit and nothing else makes me seem very fashion lazy. I like mizuiro and cyber fashion the best. Loose fitting clothes, blues, whites and greys. I appreciate the gothic stuff too, even if I'd not wear it myself.

What's your favourite portrayal of your character aside from the anime/manga?
The 2006-08 movies are probably most accurate in the plot and personality sense. But 2015 drama me is a little shit and I love it. He's me if I had less self control, I'd absolutely be pranking Light just to piss him off. That's canon.

What's the biggest difference between canon you and fictive you?
Let's be real, as fruity as canon me LOOKS, there's no way the authors actually intended it. Canon me is most likely cishet. While I'm anything but. So aside from that very obvious difference, I'd say I'm much kinder and more protective over those I love.

BONUS:

Who in the system are you closest to?
You, Ahk and the kids. I couldn't escape you guys even if I wanted to. It's always 'L you're smart, do this for me' or 'dad I'm bored'.

Which of the fictives are you closest to?
Ahk and Cat. I mean that's one of my partners and one of my kids. How Death Note, Night At The Museum and Miraculous managed to crossover I have no idea. But it's funny.

That's all I got! Everything I asked and everything he answered. He also said to self promo his tumblr blog lol. If you like mizuiro and cyber y2k/ old technology, go follow @ mizuirolawliet lol.
