A/n: idk what it is about you guys and dilf L but they're some of my best received oneshots. So I bring you another one. I may not like kids but dilf L? Mmm good shit.

It's no secret that orphaned children often end up living hellish childhoods. Having no care from an adult parental figure is the worst thing a child can experience. L knew this first hand, he suffered it, he lived through it. He was lucky enough to end up with a foster father that took good care of him, but unfortunately many children couldn't say the same.

Many of the children that end up in wammys are ones with a low chance of being adopted. Unfortunately lots of people don't want children that need extra care, and while the wammys children are extremely smart many of them suffer the traumas of their lives before being orphaned. Meaning they needed that extra psychology help.

Wammys had two jobs: provide a home for children who needed extra care and were gifted and talented. And, find a successor for L, the most unsuspecting yet incredible child to attend wammys.

All these years later, L grew up into the world's greatest detective and was doing much much better than he was as a child. Still in contact with the orphanage that raised him and accompanied across the world on cases by his foster father.

Kids wasn't something he often thought about, he found them annoying and hard to understand. But being an orphaned child himself he had a soft spot for them, always feeling bad for their situation and able to empathise. He never thought such a cliche moment would happen to him, but in the dead of night while he was up on a case he was suddenly distracted by the sound of a baby crying.

When he went to investigate it, he found said baby bundled up in a basket right outside his door. Someone has done the classic drop and run, and he was the unsuspecting victim if it. He couldn't just leave a baby outside in the cold night, and immediately took it in.

There was no name, no identification, nothing. Just a baby girl wrapped up in a pink blanket with a teddy and little purple beanie screaming her head off.

For the first time, L didn't have a plan. He had no idea what to do, he'd never taken care of a baby before and he had no supplies to help. But something about holding that child in his arms trying to get her to calm down made something... click in him.

Maybe it was the fact he'd also been abandoned, and the empathy for the child overtook him. But in that moment he decided on the spot: he'd raise this child. He'd never done it before, had no one to call her mother, had zero supplies, but he wasn't going to let this freshly orphaned child suffer.

This was now HIS daughter.

So at midnight he pulled in a coat, wrapped up this baby in his arms stuffed his slippers on and left the house to go get at least some baby formula or a pacifier or SOMETHING to start with. There were a few 24 hour shops, surely he could find something.

"What am I doing? I've never raised a child... but..." he mumbled to himself, looking down at the now sleeping baby he carried.

He just couldn't bring himself to get rid of her.

"How will I explain this to Watari? Better question what do I even need to get? Bottles... onesies... Damnit where will she sleep I doubt I can find somewhere that sells a crib at midnight..."

He had no idea what he was doing, but he was doing it. Entering the 24 hour department store he found it almost completely empty but still open. He stood in the entrance for a moment trying to figure out what he'd need and where everything was. But being completely lost, he was left with no choice but to turn to the only worker in the store at this hour and ask.
