Wei Ying took a deep breath. Lan Zhan was already holding his hand, and they were waiting outside the Jingshi, for Wei Ying to be ready. Lan Zhan squeezed his hand, giving him second hand courage.

"I'm okay, Lan Zhan. Let's do this."

"Mn."

He opened the door.

SiZhui was already sitting inside with his sister. They bowed and everyone sat down comfortably. Lan Zhan poured water for everyone, despite the fact that he knew Wei Ying would be the one drinking all of them. At times like this, Wei Ying tended to become over emotional, and as a direct result, dehydration was a real problem.

"What is it, father?" Li XiWang asked, already looking worried.

She had a deep connection to Wei Ying and somehow was able to know how he was feeling, on a par that levelled with Lan Zhan.

"We have something really important to ask you, little rabbit. But before we do, we want you to know that you can say no, that you don't have to agree with what we're suggesting." Wei Ying took her hand, while Lan Zhan snaked an arm around her young shoulders, pulling her closer towards him.

"Okay." She sounded uncertain, and it broke Wei Ying's heart.

He hated to be the one to cause any disruption in her life, and what was he thinking? But this question and her answer were so important, he dared not delay any more.

"Do you remember the pouch you showed to Daden Yaonu?" He asked her gently, playing with her soft fingers.

The tips were becoming calloused just like her father's, from playing her guqin.

Lan Zhan pushed his cup towards him, which he smiled gratefully at him for, and drank in one go.

"Yes. The one that caused those energy waves." She pulled it out of her sleeve and set it upon the table.

"How do you feel about opening it now?" He asked her.

Four pairs of eyes looked at warily. The pouch was made from a shimmery white fabric, fastened by a silver thread wound around an abalone pearl. It was quite beautiful to look at.

Wei Ying thought it was a shame that something so beautiful could bring so much potential harm, to someone so innocent.

"Why?" Her clear burgandy eyes stared back at Wei Ying, unconsciously demanding the truth.

"So there's lots to tell you." Wei Ying kissed her hand. "I believe you are old enough for us to explain the risks involved."

"Little rabbit will always be safe." Lan Zhan told her.

"We will always look after you, Li XiWang." SiZhui added.

"Okay. Tell me." She looked so determined.

"So we think the pouch holds the key to finding your parents." Wei Ying winced, slightly at the words. He tried not to, really he did, but it was a gut reaction.

"Father, I want you to know, that no matter what happens, you both will always be my real parents. It can't be them, because I don't know them at all. And you mean everything to me." She reached across and held SiZhui's hand too.

SiZhui had a lump in his throat.

As did Wei Ying. Lan Zhan pushed a refilled cup at him again.

"So what risks are you talking about?" Her voice was much calmer now.

"It has to do with the other matter." Wei Ying explained. "I know you don't remember, but it's twice now that your eyes have changed colour. Both times, you take on the persona of Bai Hua. She was a famous healer, her title was Healer of the Heavens."
