Lan Zhan found his way to Wei Ying immediately, holding his hand.
Wei Ying looked up at him and smiled at him first before searching for Jian Ci.
"How did she get out?"
"The bubble popped by itself. And then she went loopy." Yezi made the movement of a single finger going round in circles next to her temple.
"Yeah, she cray cray." Zhitiao added, stepping behind her sister when Jian Ci came closer.
Wei Ying watched as the leader of the assassins squealed in delight...at a wild dandelion. She picked it up, her face transforming into one of beauty and joy.
Gone was her anger at the world, her fierceness and jealousy, replaced by simple happiness. She looked...beautiful.
The hand around his tightened, and Wei Ying realised too late that his thought was spoken aloud.
"I mean...I mean...compared to before." He tugged on Lan Zhan's hand, going for joviality but wanting to shrink away at the scowl.
Of course, nobody else knew he was upset. His face didn't change except for the tightness around his eyes and an ever so slight down turned mouth.
Wei Ying reached up to chastely kiss his jaw, which only went some way to pacifying the Jade.
"We have lots to talk about." Wei Ying told him.
"Mn." Golden eyes turned their full attention onto him.
Wei Ying shivered, his own silver orbs reflecting the same desire. He wanted nothing else just then, but to be alone with Lan Zhan. Not even for anything physical, but more that he really missed being with just him, a balm for his sore heart.
"We're going home after this." He vowed.
"Mn." Delight and relief were both present.
Another joyful shriek brought them out of their trance, and Wei Ying narrowly avoided coming into contact with Jian Ci as she lunged towards another ill-fated flower, plucking it from the soft ground and making googly eyes at it.
"What's wrong with her?" He whispered, stepping behind Lan Zhan and peeking from above his shoulder.
No one said anything.
"Hui Gai, explain yourself." Wei Ying sighed, looking around for him.
He had vanished when he'd seen the newly reformed killer.
"I mean it." Wei Ying added.
When he appeared, Li XiWang was the first to go to him, slipping her tiny hand inside his larger one. He smirked at her and she beamed back, before they both turned to face Wei Ying.
Wei Ying felt like they were a team, and he was having to admonish both his children suddenly.
"What did you do? To her?" They all looked at the now lying down woman.
She was in a starfish position and began making snow angels minus the snow.
"Nothing." Hui Gai looked down, not wishing to make eye contact.
"Well, she wasn't like that when you left. So explain." Wei Ying folded his arms across his chest, while Lan Zhan pulled him closer with an arm around his waist.
"I just cleaned up, I told you."
"Cleaned up?"
"Yeah...it was filthy inside her mind. I just burned away all that...and then it seemed empty so I planted some flowers...only..." Hui Gai stopped speaking. "Besides, it's way better than before. At least she doesn't want to kill anything that moves!" He added, defensively. "And you said not to kill anyone..."
"I didn't know you could do that!"
"Right? RIGHT??? Trust me, this is a first for me too!" He livened up with enthusiasm, grinning from ear to ear.
"I wasn't...encouraging you..." Wei Ying sighed when the two people in front of him high fived each other.
Jian Ci was having a mini crisis of her own. She had been sitting in a most unladylike position, kneeling with her backside in the air, staring at some activity. She waved at the little insects, a frown marring her features, and then she picked one up, letting it crawl freely inside her palm. She jumped up to Wei Ying.
"What...what's this called?" She asked in a voice full of wonder.
"An ant." He told her.
The problem was, she was behaving so...weirdly. She poked it, giggling.
Yezi and Zhitiao stepped back warily.
"Change her back." Yezi murmured.
Hui Gai scowled at them.
"That's not natural." Zhitiao added, frowning.
"I don't know how to." He muttered.
"Wow! Well, look, definitely, we are putting that on the "no can do" list." Wei Ying watched her fluttering about like a butterfly, from one new discovery to another.
"Why?" Hui Gai sounded disappointed.
"She's going to need a baby sitter. Do you think we can leave her, like that?" Wei Ying waved at her body.
Jian Ci started to sing out loud.
"Not it." Yezi took another step back.
"Me neither." Zhitiao followed.
"That's not fair. She's your sister." Wei Ying exclaimed.
"We've left." Zhitiao enunciated, grinning.
"Yeah, we have to get ready to leave." Yezi took her hand and they ran away, laughing.
Jian Ci thought it was a game and followed them, much to their horror.
"I want to go home." Wei Ying hadn't realised again that the words were spoken aloud, until he found himself gathered into white billowing sleeves.
He breathed in the sandalwood scent, feeling safe and comforted. His own arms wrapped around the strong waist and he took in huge gulps of air. Lan Zhan let out a low laugh.
Puzzled, Wei Ying leaned back to see what was funny.
"Tickles." Lan Zhan told him, kissing his nose.
He twitched it, happily.
"For you!" Jian Ci had returned, holding out a pink flower.
Wei Ying reached out to take it but somehow, when she was handing it over, she dropped it and as he tried to catch it, his thumb landed on her mark.
Lan Zhan watched in disbelief and horror as his beloved vanished with Jian Ci, right before his eyes.
