Wei Ying seemed lost in his thoughts.

"Wei Ying?"

"Hmm?" He shook off his distractedness. "I was just...I guess I'm in awe of Bai Hua. I kept thinking that she was unknown to me, not like Li XiWang at all, and look at how we're finding out about her. I feel so much better for it...and to know she was a decent person in the end...I'm happy." He finished.

"Mn." Lan Zhan took the finished book out of his hands and placed the second one instead.

"I am shocked. I have no words for what I have seen."

"Wow. That's it? Just one entry for..." he flicked through the pages, "seven days." He tapped the dates. "I had a feeling she wasn't going to deal with it well."

"Before I begin, I wish to record that I have thought and rethought my every single action before concluding that this one makes the most sense. I know that some may blame me for using my gift, some may see it as a selfish desire for greatness, but the truth is this: many wrongs will be righted by a single sacrifice from me.

"If I can help my friends in any way, then nothing is too much. I know now why my cultivation led to immortality, and so quickly. I must die first to be reborn.

"The only way to do this is in a clinical way, without emotions. If I allow my feelings to get in the way, I fear I will chicken out and hide here for all eternity. No one will blame me...because no one knows that I've taken a look.

"But I know. And how can I hide from myself? I know that death is preferable to cowardice at least.

"From now on, I will be a professional, harsh and unforgiving to myself, only because I do not wish to cave. It's so easy to pretend that I haven't seen the things I have, but my only choice now is to list them. For people will come and they need to see...

"Six months from now, I will be betrayed. It matters not by whom, whether purposefully or by accident, but it will happen. The events I am about to describe will definitely happen, perhaps with little changes here and there.

"This is what will happen, once I am dead as Bai Hua. I will come back and eventually my name will be Li XiWang. But before that, my parents will be my good friends, Zai Shu Xia and Tiaopi De Long.

"It feels strange saying that aloud, let alone writing the characters on parchment. It somehow...makes it feel real. My parents will have a tough time of it, because the Children of the Tree will be persistent. Even after I am reborn, my parents will spend much time apart. They call me Yinghua*.

"Eventually I will be left at the home of another Immortal, Baoshen Sanren. Her grandson and his husband will become my new parents. My skills will start to develop all through a dangerous time, but my new parents will look after me. I will have some...different friends too, although that part is not too clear.

"I will start looking for my parents with the help of my adoptive parents, and on the way, I will reconnect with my father's side of our new family. I will also be able to return to Heping with my new parents.

"I will give them two gifts, which are crucial to our quest. But in all of this, I will close off my memories of this life to make it easier for the people involved. Here, there lies a choice, one I must trust in others to make for me. This perhaps is more important than anything else, for I must not confuse myself to the point of madness.

"One person's memories are enough for one lifetime, but how will I be able to cope with two? At least until I'm ready, this is the best course of action.

"If you are reading this as I have planned, then Wei WuXian and Lan WangJi, it is my honour to be your daughter in this next life of mine.

"There are many problems to be solved together, but the Great injustice I talked about was that of my friends. They have suffered greatly and we will need to find them before it is too late."

Wei Ying closed the book, feeling exhausted.

"We finished the second book." He leaned back against Lan Zhan, closing his eyes.

He felt strong arms come around him and felt grateful.

"What are we going to do, Lan Zhan?"

"Wei Ying does not have to think about everything at once. One thing at a time." His deep voice rumbled in his chest next to Wei Ying's ear.

The words sounded familiar, and he remembered saying them to someone else. It brought a smile to his troubled face. He felt warm lips rest at his temple, clearing away the lines of doubt and worry.

"What does Wei Ying want to do first?"

The voice at his ear made him shiver and think of other things he'd much rather do...but he sighed and sat up.

"I don't want to read all of these here, that's for sure. Can't we skim through, and take whatever is important with us? She never said we couldn't, right?"

"Mn."

"You're so supportive!" Wei Ying kissed his nose and retrieved more books.

One in particular caught his attention and he tried to open it but it seemed locked, or at least warded. He put it away in his pouch for safe keeping.

The other books did not hold anything much useful, so they went back to library room.

Li XiWang was running from one end to another, but what was totally amazing was that she managed to get both familiars to help her, in between their strange contest of one-upmanship. It was only when DaErduo turned into a rat with blue eyes, and Kitty turned into a wildcat, that Wei Ying made the connection.

"Lan Zhan, do you think Kitty is Zai Shu Xia's familiar? Is that even possible? Yezi said that's what she was..."

"But then, would she not be with Zai Shu Xia?" Lan Zhan's brow furrowed. "Can they be far apart?"

"I don't know. We should definitely save that question for Hongse. But I know what I want, now."

"Mn. What does Wei Ying want?"

"I want to perform Empathy. Not on Li XiWang, but on Bai Hua."
