Hui Gai was sitting quietly inside the necklace around Li XiWang's neck, watching. He was completely aware of what was going on, but this time, he was wondering what to do.
His friend had told him to look after the little girl, however now, the situation had changed. His little girl was really an older woman, right now, competently gathering ingredients and collecting recipes for different cures.
And right now, she did not have time for him. Which filled him with more than a little bit of sadness. True, there was no time for her to feel sad, but Hui Gai missed her.
It was nice to feel needed, especially by someone with no ulterior motives. In that way, both his friend and her were the same, completely open with him. He admired that quality now, having been exposed to people who definitely were hiding something. It was refreshing to be liked, no, loved, for being himself and not what he could do for them.
Meanwhile, their current situation was giving him other thoughts.
There were different scenarios running in loops in his mind, and all of them he was sure, were against normal behaviour, and quite possibly would make his friend upset. It was the latter that made him rethink what he should do.
Annihilation aside, diplomacy wasn't his strong point, but at least he got the job done whenever he was called.
Wei Ying had made it abundantly clear that he did not have to respond whenever his name was called, but Hui Gai actually liked taking part.
And, he thought gleefully, the not-taking-part-if-he-didn't-want-to was a two way street. Surely no one would mind if he did. To sort out the Children of the Tree, he was thinking up plans that may not have been elaborate, but were definitely effective.
And probably would go against most of the Cultivation world...and his friend...and quite possibly his little girl...
So that was his dilemma.
Come to think of it, he didn't like the Flowers of Venus either...

Hongse De sat vigilantly outside the barrier. She threw the occasional stone at it, taking care of the rebound, because it was viciously accurate, but still satisfying nonetheless.
Nothing had changed so far. Nothing they tried worked either, not the manipulation of energy surrounding them, no wind, water, or fire helped.
And she tried not to show it, especially to her sisters, because as their leader, she was supposed to be in control all the time. She was supposed to lead. Not sit in the dust and mope, because the last lead that might have helped them find her Master and her sister was gone.
After weeks of travelling together, she missed the little family, even the demon, though she didn't trust him as far as she could throw him.
The Yilling Patriarch and the Sword Master Hanguang Jun were...just amazing. She had heard of them, of course she had. Who did not know of the fabulous cultivation duo, the men responsible for restoring peace in the South? But to hear tales about their great achievements, to know that one of them had actually died and come back, while the other had waited for him? For sixteen years?
These were truly strong men. And to see them in real life was simply...awe inspiring. While Wei WuXian was wonderful anyway, a devoted husband, a wonderful father to their little girl, and a true friend to the demon, the fact that he could fly...
Hongse De never really believed in fate until now. These two heroes were here for a reason, and it could not be simply coincidence that they had met each other, right now. Perhaps their paths were closer intertwined than she had previously thought.
