The moon tree stood firm and tall, its emerald leaves bursting forth reaching up towards the sky like outstretched arms. It had only been a week since his nephew in bond had planted it, and Uncle Qiren smiled at the thought.

He felt along the smooth, silvery bark of the only tree to survive this patch of soil, growing until its beauty was famed locally. A gift from Chang'e herself, a royal Celestial. The heart shaped leaves fluttered in the moonlight, stirring with the softest breeze, and a light, happy fragrance filled his nostrils.

Peace, ever evasive, settled upon his shoulders. He thought of Wei Ying and his nephew.

The boy was a ray of sunshine, driving away the darkness from the cobwebbed corners of Cloud Recesses and the minds of the Elders. His bright smile against all odds, in the face of adversity was truly a blessing.

He regretted his actions upon first meeting the young boy, and even more so after he realised how close his own dear nephew was to him. And no matter how much he tried to separate them, or punish them, like magnets, they were drawn towards one another; and not even death could prevent that.

He sighed deeply.

There were things he knew, things which should, by all rights and everything good in the world, stay hidden, and forgotten.

Only now, events were happening, whether he liked it or not, powerless to stop what was going to occur.

The Soul Bond.

It hadn't happened for hundreds of decades, the last known cultivators to have achieved such status long gone from the realm of humans.

And yet here, in Cloud Recesses, under his watchful eye, his own nephew and Wei Ying had completed that very miracle. A natural progression on their path...and yet...

If there was a way to reverse it, to break them apart, it must be tried. Whether it was even possible, was another matter entirely; for once something was done, the ripples drew away, like a pebble cast into still water, the reverberation lasting a long while after the fact.

Would it even work? Would they be willing? Perhaps if he explained to them, they would understand his fears. They were not baseless, not by a long shot, and he had to try.

Some stars were meant to shine brighter than others.

There was nothing he could do about that.

Wei Ying stared at Lan Zhan doubtfully.

"For me?"

"Mn." Lan Zhan pushed the box towards him.

"But why? It's not my birthday, or yours, for that matter. And not any anniversary...is it?" Now he looked afraid.

Lan Zhan didn't want him to feel any of those feelings reflected on his face right now. So, using his super strength, he grabbed Wei Ying by his upper arms, eliciting a yelp, before crashing their lips together in a show of dominance and force, wanting to erase whatever was going to through his mind.

Wei Ying clutched his white robes desperately, wanting more. He was surprised by his husband's strong feeling, and reciprocated by biting his lip.

Lan Zhan growled and pushed him onto the floor. Desire flared at his compromising position as Lan Zhan straddled him, still holding a helpless Wei Ying, silver eyes excitedly watching him through hooded lids.

Amber eyes caught the flash of red ribbon loosened in their struggle, now lying in a puddle next to them.

A memory...distant...painful...
