Chapter 48 Light

XiChen hurried to the Jingshi, wondering what was so important that he had to literally drop everything just go there now.

Lan Zhan usually kept things to himself at the best of times, but when it came to Wei Ying, everything had to happen now and now.

It was kind of endearing, but at times like this, when Jiang Cheng had just returned from Lotus Pier, highly inconvenient.

He and Jiang Cheng had tough jobs, and not a lot of time to not do them, so finding time alone together was...difficult at the best of times. Hopefully, this wouldn't take too long...

Both Wei Ying and Lan Zhan were sitting at the table waiting for him.

Wei Ying smiled tentatively at him, and that was his first clue, that this was no ordinary meeting.

There was an unopened jar of Emperor's smile, sitting in the middle. Second clue.

XiChen sat down and paid attention.

"Can Brother watch over us? We wish to use Empathy." Lan Zhan told him.

XiChen had to smile at his no nonsense tone.

"May I ask why?"

"Bai Hua visited again and showed us where she lives, er...I mean, lived." Wei Ying replied. "Since this is the second time she's said so, I think it's important enough to find her home. Plus Li XiWang suggested we take the hunger striker with us, so her sisters don't come looking here." Wei Ying grabbed Lan Zhan's tea and chugged it down.

More was filled immediately.

"But I want to show Lan Zhan something, from what I saw." He continued.

"Then why am I here?" XiChen was genuinely curious now.

Wei Ying would not have suggested his presence without good reason.

"Just in case something happens. I don't think anything will, but you never know." Wei Ying replied, vaguely.

"Very well, then. Shall we begin?"

"Brother is in a rush?" Lan Zhan suddenly asked him, too interested.

"What? No!" XiChen protested, flustered already.

"I think you're right, Lan Zhan." Wei Ying added, shrewdly watching him.

XiChen felt like a prey caught between two hungry predators.

"No, no, I just don't like to waste time." He finished, looking at anywhere but them.

"That's so lame!" Wei Ying announced, still staring at him. "At least you could have come up with a better excuse. Why don't you just admit that my brother is back from Lotus Pier and you just wanna get down and dirty with him? We'd understand." Wei Ying bit his lip, trying not to laugh out loud from the expression on his Brother in Bond's face. And he never seen XiChen-Ge look quite this shade of red before.

A look of distaste passed over Lan Zhan's face, before he schooled his features.

"If Brother wants to go, he can." The words were offered certainly, but the meaning behind them was totally the opposite. Lan Zhan wanted him to know that if he stood up to leave right now, he would very much regret it.

XiChen smiled uncomfortably and put up with both of them.

"Okay, fine!" Wei Ying turned his billion watt smile upon his poor unsuspecting husband, who faltered slightly, spilling some tea.

Lan Zhan never spilled the tea.

"Let's do this." Wei Ying batted his eyelashes, at a loss to understand why this had such an effect on his husband but totally willing to exploit it. Plus he had a certain challenge to win...
