Li XiWang brought a cup of water to Yezi. She was still shaking, and refused at first, but Li XiWang made her drink it.

"I want to find my sister. I want to go now." She kept muttering.

But nobody was willing to let her go, not when the threat remained down below. The Children of the Tree had no way of getting up here, so for now, they were safe.

"Wait for my fathers." Li XiWang told her, but Yezi was beyond talking to.

Li XiWang felt exasperated and searched for Hui Gai, who winked at her. In a flash, he was gone, and seconds later, Yezi passed out.

When he reappeared, Li XiWang high fived him.

"My friend won't be happy." He told her, grinning.

"Who's going to tell him?" She grinned back. "Besides, she was making it difficult to think. It's not like she can go down there by herself. And anyway, instead of babysitting her, we can help them." Li XiWang got up to meet Hongse.

The leader of the Flowers of Venus was busy separating the victims to ones who weren't going to make it and those who would benefit from aid and treatment. Then she split the able bodied into two groups, one to comfort the former and the other to start the curing.

"My father said lemon juice is the antidote to the poison darts." She told her. "Is there anything else I can do, Auntie?"

Hongse looked at the little girl and felt proud.

"Are you squeamish about blood?"

"Let's find out." Li XiWang rolled up her sleeves and followed her to the next patient, in turn followed by Hui Gai who kept a close eye on her.

He was glad she wasn't sitting around moping, choosing to do something proactive instead.

His gaze wandered to the closed room, hoping his friend would wake up soon.

Wei Ying felt something warm touch his eyelids and then his cheeks and then his mouth. He sighed happily and was about to move, when the skin barely stitched together pulled, making him gasp.

"Do not move. Not yet." Lan Zhan held him down until he was sure Wei Ying would stay.

Wei Ying opened his eyes to find Lan Zhan staring at him, so worried.

"I'm alright, Lan Zhan."

Lan Zhan was leaning over him, careful not to put any weight on his wounds. He sighed, burying his face in the crook of Wei Ying's neck.

"I'm sorry." Wei Ying whispered.

Lan Zhan felt a wetness on his own cheek, and he looked up to find Wei Ying unable to stop the flow.

"Must not say that." Lan Zhan reminded him.

"I know, but I promised and...and look what happened. I tried, really I did, but Lan Zhan, they cheated." He closed his eyes. But the tears, they did not stop.

Lan Zhan kissed him softly, gently, pouring all of his affection into this one act, trying to convey all that he felt. The sadness and grief at his injuries, the fear of how badly he was hurt, and finally the joy that he had woken up.

Wei Ying wrapped his arms around his neck, holding him closer, reciprocating with every fibre of his soul, reflecting the same feelings.

"I'm sorry for scaring you too."

"No need. Not Wei Ying's fault. They were after you, and one other."

"Really? Who?"

"Zhitiao."
