Theirs was a large group of travellers, slowly moving north. Zhitiao refused to leave Yezi, so they walked side by side, but Wei Ying could see that Yezi was full on ignoring her sister, even though Zhitiao was trying her best to catch her eye, and talk.
Yezi kept throwing furtive glances at them, but remained silent. She didn't complain, she sat when she was asked to, ate when she was given food and ignored Zhitiao to perfection.
Zhitiao was persistent.
Wei Ying kept an eye on the sisters, even though they were far behind, being herded by the Flowers of Venus. Whenever he caught Zhitiao's eye, he tried to encourage her by smiling, or giving her a thumbs up sign, but Yezi was far too stubborn.
They took breaks frequently, and while no one bothered to talk to the twins, Wei Ying went out of his way to ask Zhitiao if she was okay. Apart from the flicker of surprise in Yezi's eyes at first, she managed to hide her reactions afterwards.
Zhitiao would watch Yezi as she in turn, watched Li XiWang. A coldness seeped into her features then, and Zhitiao knew that she was immersing herself in their teachings, reminding herself of their orders. Yezi was too far from changing, if at all.
Two days passed like this. Travel was slower than when it was just the five of them, but they were relaxed and calm.
Zhitiao was sitting under the shade of a tree with her sister, when she decided to tell her a few things. Shidi Wei WuXian had said change came from within. If she didn't say anything now, then when would she be able to get through to her sister?
"Yezi, I know you don't want to hear this, but have you thought about our Mother?"
"Have you?" Yezi bit out.
Zhitiao didn't care. However hostile, this was progress.
"Don't think about me, or how much you think I'm betraying our sisters. Just think about this: what if there was a link between our Mother and Zai Shu Xia? What if our Mother died in direct relation to A-Xia being imprisoned? It's a possibility. One that you know only too well, because if that's true then it means we were responsible for killing our Mother. Nobody else."
"Just shut up. I'm not going to listen to you. These past few weeks, I wasted time looking for you, and you? What did you care?" Yezi's face was red, chest heaving at the attempt to stay calm.
"You're right, I was on a mission. I failed, but now I believe I didn't. I have found out so many things, Yezi, and I want to share them all with you!"
Zhitiao wanted to shake her stubborn sister. Why wasn't she listening?
"Where we're going now, we might be able to discover where our sister is now, and we might be able to get our gift back." Zhitiao continued.
"I will not help that traitor." Yezi was adamant.
Zhitiao remained silent now.
Yezi looked at the little girl skipping ahead of them. She looked so happy, Yezi forgot for a few minutes, why they were chasing her.
She was their sworn enemy, skilled healer of the Heavens, reincarnated to heal the many victims of the Children of the Tree.
Bai Hua.
The White Flower.
This formidable apparent of theirs had cured their enemy twice over. And if anyone deserved to die, it was the Seventh Sea Dragon, Tiaopi De Long. Stealer of innocent hearts. Stealer of their sister.
