Chase looked at Skye, waiting for some sort of joke to come, but one never came. Is she serious? Chase thought to himself as he couldn't believe Skye actually had to ask him the answer to that question.
Some anger built up inside of the shepherd, but he decided to keep it in and handle it the better way.
"Sorry, but I can't tell you. That's something you have to figure out." Chase responded which annoyed her a little bit. Not this again, Skye sighed in her mind and she didn't want to push him, but this was her chance to talk to Chase.
"C'mon, ever since you asked me that, I still can't figure it out." Skye said with some annoyance in her voice. Chase frowned a little bit and fully looked at Skye once again.
"Look, I asked you that just so you can figure it out, I shouldn't have to tell you." Chase said back with a little hint of annoyance of his own but still tried to keep his voice soft.
"Okay? What about the other stuff that you asked the rest of the pups?" The Cockapoo questioned.
"Don't bring them into this, they have their own things to figure out." Chase retaliated and Skye started to get a bit more irritated the more of this went on.
"You want us to answer them right? Well if we can't figure it out, then you should tell us." Skye argued back, now her voice was starting to raise a little bit more. "Y'know, now that I think about it, ever since you've changed, things have been going wrong left and right!"
Chase sarcastically chuckled, now getting more angry with the pink pup.
"Hah! I wonder why." Chase laughed sarcastically as he rolled his eyes which made Skye angry even more.
"Are you saying it's my fault!?" She yelled.
"No, not entirely." He hollered as he pointed back up at the Lookout, "If you want, you can talk to them about it too!" That sentence made Skye even more frustrated and angry.
"What!? Are you blaming the rest of us?" She asked, referring to the pups of the Paw Patrol.
"Well there's you, Everest, Marshall, Rocky, Zuma and Rubble!" Chase specifically answered.
"What did they ever do to you?" The small Cockapoo asked and once again, Chase sarcastically laughed.
"Haha! Why don't you ask them yourself?" Chase yelled out and Skye growled this time.
"Ugh! See? This is the problem with you! Every time we try to talk to you, you'll just ignore us or brush us off." Skye yelled back.
"Like you're one to talk!" Chase yelled back and Skye seemed confused until she realized what he was talking about.
"Seriously? You're the one who messed up while trying to fix my helicopter!" Skye yelled.
"How was I supposed to know!?" Chase yelled back as he suddenly calmed himself down.
"You know what? Forget it! This is stupid, I knew I shouldn't have agreed to this hang out." Chase grunted.
"I should be the one saying that! Talking to you won't get me anywhere at all, I don't even understand why I kept trying!" Skye shouted.
"Really? Considering the fact you haven't figured out my question, I don't think you tried at all!" That sentence was the final straw for Skye as she got more angry.
"You know what!? I don't even care anymore! You've been nothing but a pain! You get abandoned in a city and you act like we were the reason why!" Skye shouted and Chase just stood silent as he already knew Skye was gonna say more.
"I can't believe I actually felt sorry for you at that time. You're weaker than I thought! Aside from living alone in a city, what else have you gone through that made you act like this? Absolutely nothing!" Skye kept on yelling, not even realizing what she was saying to the shepherd.
Chase on the other hand stared at Skye as he listened to her as his eyes slowly began to widen much more. But then, Skye's face fell and turned around as she glanced at Chase once again and spoke in a calm but also disappointed tone before she left.
"Y'know, Jamison had the right idea. I don't know what his dealer was thinking! He should've accepted you and Jamison should've sold you off a long time ago."
Silence
Chase watched with wide eyes as Skye walked towards the Lookout, not giving him a second look. She really just said that...she actually said that.
He couldn't believe his ears. His face was in a state of shock and hurt. His entire body went still and he felt his stomach was empty like a cave.
Chase didn't even bother following her as he just sat back down on the beach and stared off into the bright moon that was now shining above the ocean.
Flash Back
"Sorry honey, but the deal was off." Jamison explained. The fact that Jamison called her "honey" and she called him "dear" made Chase assume that she was his wife.
"So, what're we gonna do with it?" His wife asked, as she looked towards Chase who had his ears down.
"Sorry, but if we can't make the deal, he's worthless to me now." Jamison coldly stared at Chase, not realizing that he just destroyed a healing heart.
Flash Back Ends
At that memory, Chase gritted his teeth a little bit. That's all he's worth? Money? Much less, he was surprised enough to hear Skye say those kinds of words. But then again, it was her idea to ignore him in the first place along with the other pups, it wasn't anything new.
"So...why does it still hurt?" Chase asked himself when he noticed he said that sentence in a broken voice.
Just then, he felt something trickle down his cheek and he lifted his paw to see what it was and what he felt made his eyes widen.
A tear
The German Shepherd was confused but then gasped a little bit as he felt more tears falling down his face. Why am I crying? Chase asked himself. He felt his mood drop. The more he thought about it, the more he didn't want to go back to the Lookout. Suddenly, many emotions came flooding in.
Angry, frustrated, surprised, shocked, hurt, depressed...sad.
Those words hurt...they hurt more than what Skye could've ever imagined.
It hurt him to a point where Chase didn't even wanna go back home. Or at least, the home that he thought he had. He gasped again a little bit as he softly sobbed as more tears trickled down his cheeks.
"No...I...I can't cry." Chase told himself as he used his leg to wipe off the tears. After wiping them off, Chase looked ahead of the ocean. He could barely see the outline of Foggy Bottom, but it was still there. The German Shepherd glanced over at the docs to see Captain Turbot pulling in.
Quickly glancing back and forth, Chase stood back up and walked over to the boat as he needed to ask Captain Turbot for a favor.
He needed to be in a place where he felt safe and...
