The following days after what happened at the Quidditch World Cup, Lily has spent trying to forget about what happened, but she can never get that image out of her head, especially when she goes to sleep. Yet, September first rolls around quicker than she would like it to and before she knows, she's back at Hogwarts.

So when Lily gets to Hogwarts, she doesn't waste any time when getting into the Great Hall, despite the fact that she's soaked so when she sits down, she mutters a quick spell amd her clothes are dry again, even though her hair stays wet.

The Great Hall looks its usual splendid self, decorated for the start-of-term feast. Golden plates and goblets gleam by the light of hundreds and hundreds of candles, floating over the tables in midair. The Sorting of the new students into Houses takes place at the start of every year. Yet, for some reason, whilst Lily's eyes gaze over the staff table, she notices a seat empty, it being reserved for the Defense Against the Dark Arts.

Yet, she couldn't ponder as to why it was empty for much longer as Professor McGonagall leads a long line of first years up to the top of the Hall. And as soon as she gets to the top of the Hall, the Hat is placed on top of the three-legged stool in front of them all. Then a long tear near the brim opens wide like a mouth, and the hat breaks into song:

A thousand years or more ago,

When I was newly sewn,

There lived four wizards of renown,

Whose names are still well known:

Bold Gryffindor, from wild moor,

Fair Ravenclaw, from glen,

Sweet Hufflepuff, from vally broad,

Shrewd Slytherin, from fen.

They shared a wish, a hope, a dream,

They hatched a daring pan

To educate young sorcerers

Thus Hogwarts School began.

Now each of these four founders

Formed their own house, for each

Did value different virtues

In the ones they had to teach.

By Gryffindor, the bravest were

Prized far beyond the rest;

For Ravenclaw, the cleverest

Would always be the best;

For Hufflepuff, hard workers were

Most worthy of admission;

And power-hungry Slytherin

Loved those of great ambition.
