Annabeth was most definitely NOT supposed to be here. But she was.

She was supposed to be heading to the arena, but, as soon as she heard Percy's raised voice from a nearby cabin, she stopped dead in her tracks.

"Don't you dare talk about her like that-"

"Or what? Can't handle a little competition?"

Annabeth clenched her teeth at the second voice: Luke.

"Don't flatter yourself Luke, I don't consider you comp-"

"Well you should-"

Annabeth heard Percy scoff. She could picture him stepping forward towering over Luke. " In what world?"

It was silent for a moment, before he spoke again, his voice dangerously low, "You lost all your chances the second you chose to host Kronos......you're nothing to her.......not anymore."

Annabeth heard one of them start to leave, footsteps coming her way, when Luke yelled,

"You don't deserve her either you know!"

She heard Percy's footsteps stop, just around the corner. She held her breath, trying not to move.

She listened to Percy, taking a shaky breath- she could picture him running a hand through his hair.
He turned.

And her heart broke after hearing his next words.

"You're right, I don't." Percy said softly.

Annabeth wanted nothing more at that moment than to reveal herself, throw her arms around him and tell him- yell at him- that yes yes he did! Of course he did! That if anything she didn't deserve him and his love.

"You're not good enough!" spat Luke.

"Right again, Luke." Alongside the slight defeat in his voice. Annabeth heard pity. For Luke.

"But I want to be..."Percy continued "That's all I want. I want to make her happy and I will. And that's more than you can say."

Annabeth smiled softly, leaning against the cabin's cool stone wall.

"I just want her happy." Annabeth could picture his shrug.

It was silent for a few moments, before Annabeth heard footsteps retreating and a door slamming. Which meant one thing- Luke was gone.

Annabeth didn't wait another heartbeat before throwing her arms around his neck, pressing him to the cabin wall.

She reached up and pressed her forehead to his.

"Oh Percy! You do make me happy! You- you do! And- and you deserve the world!" She whispered pressed into him. She was practically sobbing at this point.

She felt him smile, one of his hands coming up to brush against her cheek.

"I don't need the world, wise girl."

"I just need you."
