By me.

Annabeth's eyes narrowed as she stepped closer to Percy, her fists clenched at her sides. "I can't believe you would do something like that! After everything we've been through!"

Percy, standing by the edge of the stage, ran a hand through his hair, frustration etched across his face. "What else was I supposed to do, Annabeth? You didn't exactly give me any choice!"

The room was tense, the air crackling with the weight of their words. Annabeth’s face was flushed, eyes blazing. Percy matched her intensity, refusing to back down.

"You're impossible!" Annabeth spat, her voice rising. "You never think! You just do whatever you want, and you don't care about the consequences!"

Percy’s voice, usually soft when speaking to her, hardened. "Don't turn this on me. If you had just listened to me for once—"

"I always listen to you!" Annabeth snapped, stepping forward and jabbing a finger into his chest. "But this time? This time, you went too far."

There was a long pause, the two of them glaring at each other. Then, suddenly, Percy’s lips twitched. Annabeth’s eyes flickered in confusion.

"Too far?" Percy said, his voice lightening. "Come on, Annabeth. You know I’d swim to the ends of the earth for you. Going too far is kind of my thing."

And just like that, the tension shattered. Annabeth burst out laughing, shaking her head as she pulled back from him.

"That was terrible," she giggled. "You’re not supposed to break character, Seaweed Brain."

Percy grinned, taking her hand. "I know, but you were getting a little too into it. Thought I should save us both from drowning."

Annabeth shook her head, still chuckling as the intensity of the scene melted away. They had been rehearsing lines for the school play—an audition they'd both somehow been roped into. Neither of them were the dramatic type, but it had seemed like fun at the time.

Of course, no one had warned them that their audition scene would require arguing like this. Not that they ever argued for real—well, at least, not with this kind of theatrical flair.

"I think you’ve got a real future on the stage," Annabeth teased, squeezing his hand. "But maybe stick to what you’re good at. You know, saving the world and all that."

Percy shrugged. "I don't know, Annabeth. I think I make a pretty convincing tortured hero. What do you think?"

"I think you enjoy making me pretend to be mad at you," Annabeth replied with a smirk. "Too bad it doesn't work in real life."

"Eh, I like a challenge."

They both sat down on the edge of the stage, shoulders brushing. Percy glanced over at her, still smiling. "You know, we were doing pretty well there for a while."

Annabeth leaned back on her hands. "Yeah, we definitely scared some of the other kids in the room earlier. I saw their faces."

Percy laughed. "I thought the stage manager was going to faint."

Annabeth tilted her head. "Well, you do have a habit of making things more dramatic than they need to be."

"Hey, don’t blame me!" Percy defended, leaning closer to her. "You’re the one with the fiery speeches."

"Just trying to stay in character," Annabeth said as she turned her head to look at him, her grey eyes sparkling. "But maybe you're right. Too much drama for one day."

Percy leaned in as well, their foreheads almost touching. "We could just skip the audition. Go grab some pizza instead."

Annabeth’s eyes twinkled with amusement. "You’re trying to bail on me again, aren’t you?"

"Not at all," Percy whispered, his lips curling into a smile. "Just thinking that pizza sounds more fun than arguing."

Annabeth rolled her eyes but leaned in, brushing a soft kiss against his lips. "You’re lucky I agree."

With that, they both stood, grabbing their bags and heading off the stage together. Annabeth cast one last look behind her at the empty stage. "Do you think we’ll get the parts?"

Percy grinned. "After that performance? They’d be crazy not to give us the lead roles."

Annabeth smiled, shaking her head as they walked out of the auditorium. "Whatever you say, Seaweed Brain."
