The warm, familiar confines of Camp Half-Blood were buzzing with energy, and a friendly game of Monopoly was on the agenda.
Of course, with demigods involved, “friendly” quickly spiraled into chaos.
Annabeth’s fingers trembled as she clutched a stack of Monopoly cash, her cheeks flushed with irritation. “That’s it. I'm done. You lying, cheating piece of—"
“Oh yeah?” Percy shot back, slamming his fist on the board and sending the little thimble and dog pieces flying. “You think you can get away with anything? WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD!”
Grover, caught in the middle of this storm, attempted to inch away unnoticed. “Uh, guys, it’s just… a game?”
“I’M LEAVING YOU, AND I’M TAKING GROVER WITH ME!” Annabeth declared, yanking Grover's arm as if he were a prize trophy.
Hazel, witnessing the brewing storm, calmly began gathering the scattered Monopoly pieces. “Okay, I think we’re gonna stop playing now.”
“Oh, no,” Jason drawled, leaning forward with a grin, looking like he’d just stumbled upon a reality show. “This is getting really good. Keep going.”
Piper, beside him, was cackling. “I never thought Annabeth would be this intense!”
Frank chimed in, “I always thought Percy would be the one to get Grover in the divorce.”
Grover, looking alarmed, held up his hands. "Oh! No. Annabeth is scarier! She’d definitely win the custody battle.”
Percy looked wounded. “Dude! We’ve faced monsters together! You’re supposed to be loyal!”
“I’m sorry!” Grover whispered urgently, glancing back and forth. “I don’t want to die over Monopoly, Percy!”
Annabeth, still clutching Grover, shot Percy a fiery glare. “And that’s why he’s coming with me.”
“Can we at least split up the properties?” Percy huffed. “I get the railroads; you get Boardwalk.”
Annabeth scoffed. “Boardwalk? You think I want that useless piece of—”
“Useless piece? You spent half the game trying to bankrupt me with rent there!” Percy protested, his voice rising.
Jason, completely entertained, muttered to Piper, “Is this Monopoly or Divorce Court?”
Piper stifled her laughter. “I think it’s a new reality show.”
Hazel, looking like she’d had enough, held up the Monopoly box. “Look, this isn’t real money! You’re literally fighting over fake cash!”
“Fake cash that he stole!” Annabeth shouted, jabbing her finger at Percy. “He took money from the bank when he thought I wasn’t looking!”
Percy threw his hands up. “It was two dollars!”
“Oh, so now you admit it,” Annabeth said, smirking triumphantly.
Grover tried again, leaning toward Hazel. “Can’t we just play something else? Like Ludo?”
Hazel nodded eagerly. “Or anything that doesn’t involve banking.”
Frank clapped his hands. “I have a lovely game called ‘Capture The Flag’ we could play! No one gets divorced; you just race to find the flag.”
Jason snorted.
Annabeth was still fuming, Percy was sulking, and Grover had both hands over his face.
Meanwhile, Hazel looked like she was seconds away from tossing the whole game into the fire pit.
Jason raised his glass with a grin. “To Monopoly! Officially more dangerous than battling Titans.”
Piper snorted, clinking her glass against his. “And to Annabeth, winner of Grover and the railroads.”
Annabeth smirked. “Thank you, Piper.”
Percy muttered, “Never playing Monopoly with you again.”
Grover sighed, looking between them. “Please. Let’s all agree to never play Monopoly again.”
Hazel nodded vigorously. “Done. Anyone up for Capture the Flag next weekend?”
Everyone cheered at the idea, and just like that, Monopoly was dead—forever banned from Camp Half-Blood.
