The Perfect Day

By me.

Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase strolled through the lush, sun-dappled park of New Rome City, their fingers entwined as they walked side by side. The park was quiet today, with only the gentle hum of cicadas and the distant chatter of other visitors breaking the serene silence.

Percy looked over at Annabeth, her golden curls shimmering in the sunlight, and couldn’t help but smile. They had decided to take a break from their usual adventures and enjoy a simple day together, away from the constant chaos of their demigod lives.

Annabeth had insisted they come here, claiming it was the perfect spot for “a normal, peaceful day.” Percy was more than happy to oblige. He'd always enjoyed their quieter moments, especially when they were together.

As they approached a small, tranquil pond, Percy noticed a vendor selling cotton candy. “Hey, Annabeth,” he said, a mischievous glint in his eye. “Want to share some cotton candy?”

Annabeth raised an eyebrow but couldn’t hide her amused smile. “Seriously, Percy? Cotton candy? I thought you were all about serious hero stuff.”

Percy shrugged, grinning. “Sometimes, it’s nice to indulge in the little things. Plus, it’s a classic.”

With a chuckle, Annabeth agreed. They bought a large, fluffy pink cloud of cotton candy, which Percy eagerly pulled apart and handed half to Annabeth. She took a small, cautious bite and then broke into a genuine smile.

“This isn’t so bad,” she admitted, her eyes twinkling with amusement.

Percy leaned in and stole a small piece from her half, making her laugh. “See? I knew you’d like it.”

They continued their walk, sharing the cotton candy and chatting about everything and nothing. Percy found himself lost in the rhythm of her laughter and the way her eyes sparkled when she talked about something she was passionate about.

After a while, they settled on a shaded bench by the pond. Percy took out his sketchbook, which he had brought along just in case. Annabeth watched as he started to draw, his pencil moving swiftly across the page.

“What are you drawing?” she asked, curious.

Percy glanced up, his cheeks flushing slightly. “Just a little something inspired by today. You know, capturing the moment.”

Annabeth leaned closer, peeking over his shoulder. “Let me see.”

Percy turned the sketchbook so she could see. The drawing was of them sitting on the bench, the park’s beauty captured in the background. Annabeth’s features were portrayed with a tenderness that made her heart skip a beat.

“It’s beautiful, Percy,” she said softly.

Percy’s gaze met hers, and for a moment, the world seemed to fall away. “You make every day beautiful, Annabeth,” he said, his voice filled with sincerity.

Annabeth’s heart swelled at his words. She reached out and took his hand, squeezing it gently. “I’m glad we have days like this,” she said. “It’s perfect.”

Percy grinned, his eyes full of warmth. “Yeah, it really is.”

They sat there in comfortable silence, enjoying the peace and each other’s company. The sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the park. As the sky turned shades of pink and orange, Percy leaned in and kissed Annabeth’s forehead.

“Here’s to more perfect days,” he said, his voice a tender whisper.

Annabeth snuggled closer to him, her heart full of love and contentment. “To more perfect days,” she echoed.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, they remained there, content in their shared silence, knowing that whatever adventures awaited them, they would always have moments like this to cherish.

"Hey lovebirds!" Grover shouted. "We need you here in the meeting room."

Percy didn't even flinch.

"Stop staring and move Seaweed Brain." Annabeth said, as she stood up, dusting her jeans and stretched a hand to him. There was a slight blush on her cheeks.

Percy didn't reply verbally as he took her hand and pulled himself up.  He cupped her cheek and their lips were just about to meet when,

"Percy," came Grover's voice.

Annabeth laughed at Percy's disgruntled expression as they went to the Senate. They shared a glance and Percy thought that maybe they could never get a moment of peace but they didn't want the peace if they lost their friends.
