The figure stepped forward, his shadowy form coming into focus as the light from the open Doors of Death spilled across the barren landscape. Percy's blood ran cold.
The man's face was sharp, cruel, with hollow, sunken eyes that gleamed with malevolence. His smile was cold and venomous, as though he relished the sight of Percy standing there, helpless.
"Took you long enough to crawl out of that pit, Percy Jackson," the figure taunted, his voice dripping with mockery.
Percy's eyes darted to Annabeth, who was slumped between Jason and Piper, all of them bound by thick, shadowy chains that seemed to pulse with dark energy. Annabeth's head hung low, her body limp, though Percy could see her chest rising and falling ever so slightly. She was alive-but barely.
"Get lost." Percy growled, his hand tightening on Riptide. The air around him felt electric, vibrating with the power barely contained within his body. His rage was a living thing, seething just below the surface.
The man chuckled, stepping fully into the light. "I am Nyx's first son. A child of darkness and death. But my name-" he paused, enjoying the dramatic weight of the moment-"is Moros."
Moros' cold smile widened. "I have waited eons for this moment. To watch the son of Poseidon grovel at my feet, to see the bloodline of the Olympians crumble before me."
Percy's vision turned red. His rage exploded within him, more powerful than any emotion he had ever felt. The sight of Annabeth bound and beaten, the thought of losing her, drove him into a fury that burned hotter than the deepest fires of Tartarus.
His entire body trembled with it. The ground beneath him cracked as the air around him pulsed with energy.
"I'm going to destroy you," Percy snarled, his voice barely human.
Moros smirked. "You can try, child."
Without hesitation, Percy launched himself at the Titan with an animalistic roar. His body moved on instinct, powered by sheer fury. Riptide was a blur in his hand as he slashed at Moros, each strike fueled by the fire raging inside him.
Moros dodged the first few blows, his grin widening as he summoned shadows to counter Percy's attacks. Dark tendrils whipped through the air, striking at Percy with the force of a tidal wave, but Percy was faster. His anger made him stronger, sharper.
With a roar, Percy slammed Riptide down, the celestial bronze blade colliding with Moros' shadowy form. Sparks flew as the Titan staggered back, surprised by Percy's strength. But he quickly recovered, lashing out with a wave of dark energy that sent Percy skidding across the ground.
Percy crashed into the rocks, but the pain barely registered. All he could see was Annabeth, chained and unconscious. His anger only deepened.
"You will never touch her again!" Percy screamed, his voice shaking with the intensity of his fury.
Moros sneered, summoning more darkness. "You are nothing, Jackson. You are but a mortal demigod. You think you can defy me? A Titan?"
But Percy didn't hear him. His thoughts were only on Annabeth. His love for her, his need to protect her, fueled him in ways he hadn't thought possible. He could feel the ocean inside him surging, responding to his call. He raised his hand, and the air around him crackled with energy.
Water-thick, dark, and dangerous-rose from the ground, swirling around him like a hurricane. It crashed into Moros with the force of a tidal wave, sending the Titan reeling backward.
Percy didn't stop. He couldn't. He wouldn't.
With a guttural roar, he charged forward, Riptide gleaming in the dim light. The world around him blurred as he leapt into the air, slashing at Moros with every ounce of strength he had. The Titan tried to counter, but Percy was relentless. His strikes were wild, furious, unstoppable.
With one final swing, Percy drove Riptide deep into Moros' chest. The Titan's eyes widened in shock, his body convulsing as the celestial bronze burned through him. Dark energy exploded outward, but Percy stood his ground, his face a mask of fury and determination.
Moros let out a strangled gasp, his shadowy form flickering and fading. "No... this... cannot be..."
But it was.
With a final scream, Moros' body disintegrated into a cloud of black smoke, which dissipated into the air, leaving nothing behind but the echo of his defeat.
Percy stood there, panting, his body trembling with exhaustion and rage. His mind was still racing, his heart pounding in his chest, but he couldn't stop. He had to save them.
He stumbled toward the seven, his eyes locking onto Annabeth. The shadowy chains still held them tight, draining their energy, but with Moros gone, the magic that bound them was weakening. Percy raised Riptide and, with one swift motion, slashed through the chains that held Annabeth.
She collapsed into his arms, her body limp and weak.
"Annabeth," Percy whispered, his voice breaking. "I've got you. I'm here."
Her eyes fluttered open, dazed and unfocused, but she managed a faint smile. "Percy..."
"I'm here," he repeated, holding her tightly. "I'll always be here."
