By me.

Annabeth Chase sat at the farthest corner of the library, her usual refuge from the chaos of campus life. With textbooks spread out before her and her highlighter in hand, she was deep into studying for the upcoming finals.

The library was a sanctuary of silence, a place where she could immerse herself in her work and ignore the bustling world outside. But today, her concentration was faltering. The endless hours of studying had left her feeling isolated and weary.

She glanced up occasionally, seeing students passing by, laughing and enjoying their time. It made her wish for a break—some human interaction, anything to lift her spirits.

Just then, a loud, familiar voice cut through the quiet of the library. “Hey, Wise Girl! What’s with the mountain of books?”

Annabeth looked up to see Percy Jackson approaching with his usual confident stride. He plopped down in the chair across from her, grinning widely. “Seriously, you’re gonna turn into a book if you keep this up.”

Annabeth couldn’t help but smile at his antics. “Percy, I’m just trying to get through these finals.”

“Yeah, well,” Percy said, leaning back in his chair and flashing her a mischievous grin, “I thought maybe you’d like some company. Or, you know, a distraction.”

Before she could respond, a group of their mutual friends burst into the library, clearly on a mission. Jason, Piper, Frank, Hazel, Leo, and Calypso were all together, and they didn’t look like they were in the mood for quiet study.

“Percy, you found her!” Piper called out, heading straight for their table. “We’ve been looking everywhere for you two.”

“Oho,” Percy said with a dramatic flourish. “Looks like your study session is about to get a lot more lively.”

Frank plopped down beside Percy, giving Annabeth a friendly nod. “You look like you could use a break. Finals treating you rough?”

“You have no idea,” Annabeth said, rubbing her eyes. “I’ve been here for hours.”

Hazel, ever the calming presence, sat down next to Annabeth and offered a sympathetic smile. “You should take a break. You’re not a machine, you know.”

Leo, ever the prankster, had a twinkle in his eye as he pulled out a small device from his pocket. “I’ve got just the thing to lighten the mood.” He tapped the device, and a small holographic display of a dancing penguin popped up, doing an awkward shuffle and floss.

Annabeth laughed, shaking her head at Leo’s antics. “That’s definitely a new one.”

Hazel, who had been quietly observing, leaned in and said, “Leo’s devices are always good for a laugh. But seriously, Annabeth, you need to step outside. Get some fresh air, maybe?”

Piper nodded in agreement. “We were planning to grab some food and hang out. It’d be good for you to join us.”

Annabeth hesitated, glancing back at her textbooks. “I don’t know... I’ve got so much to do.”

Jason, sensing her reluctance, gave her a reassuring smile. “We can’t let you turn into a hermit. Besides, Percy might need some supervision.”

Percy’s eyes lit up. “See? Even Jason thinks you should come. And who am I to argue with a guy like that?”

Annabeth finally relented, closing her textbook with a sigh. “Alright, alright. I’ll come. But only if we can get some actual food, not just snacks.”

“Deal!” Leo said, jumping up and heading toward the library exit.

As they all walked out together, the library’s silence was replaced by the lively chatter of their friends. Annabeth felt a sense of relief wash over her, her worries about finals temporarily set aside.

Outside, the campus was vibrant with energy, and she could see Percy ridiculously flirting with Piper while Frank and Jason discussed their latest training. Hazel and Calypso stayed close to her, making sure she was included in the conversation.

They found a cozy spot at a nearby café, where Leo immediately started regaling them with stories of his latest inventions. Percy, ever the charmer, leaned closer to Annabeth, a teasing smile on his lips.

“You know,” he said quietly, “I think this is the most fun I’ve had in ages. And it’s all thanks to you.”

Annabeth raised an eyebrow. “Is that so?”

“Absolutely,” Percy replied, his tone playful. “I think you bring out the best in all of us. Besides, you look a lot happier now.”

Annabeth felt her cheeks warm at his words. “Thanks, Percy. I guess sometimes we all need a little reminder that there’s more to life than just studying.”

“Exactly,” Percy said, lifting his glass in a mock toast. “To breaks and friends, and a little bit of fun.”

The group laughed, and Annabeth felt her worries melt away. For the first time in a long while, she was surrounded by friends who cared about her and were ready to make her laugh. And as Percy’s chatter continued, she realized that maybe, just maybe, she could balance her studies with moments like these.
