Annabeth had always been an 'I love you too' kind of person.

When she'd been a small girl and her dad kissed her on the forehead and pulled the blankets up to her chin. He'd say he loved her, and she'd say it back.

When her friend Thalia had hugged her tightly one day and told Annabeth that she loved her, Annabeth repeated the words. Partly because she did, and partly because that was what she'd always done.

Each Christmas and Birthday gift came with a thank you from Annabeth. When the gift giver would say those three words to Annabeth, she would say four back.

And then she met Percy.

Well, she looked at him differently, anyways. She and Percy had known each other for a few years, but one day things changed.

Suddenly her heart began to beat out of her chest around him. Her life became a whirlwind of green eyes and crooked grins and strong arms and stupid jokes that she laughed at anyways and the smell of sea salt some days and chlorine on others and everything was going fast.

She was spinning, falling, and loving every second of it.

So obviously, when he asked her out, she said yes.

A few months later, Annabeth had it all planned out. A quaint picnic and some stargazing and then finally - finally - she'd tell him.

Things kept going wrong that night. She spilled her salad down the front of her shirt, and when Percy went in to kiss her their noses bumped awkwardly. It was as if she'd forgotten how to function around him, as if he hadn't been the center of her world for so long.

Yet, she still had to do it. Annabeth had promised herself.

"I love you, too," she blurted. It took a few seconds for her mistake to set in. Percy raised an eyebrow.

"I mean- I love you. Period. Not 'I love you too,' I don't know why I said that. But, um, if you love me also then I guess it works out. But you don't have to say it. I'll still love you even if- I just mean it's early I know but-" she was cut off by a deep chuckle.

"Annabeth," he smiled. She felt an arm snake around her waist and pull them closer. He leaned in close to her ear. "I love you, too."
