Here's a Pt.2 to continue the one-shot.
_____________________The rest of the afternoon had been surprisingly calm. Annabeth had expertly dodged every one of Percy's attempts to find out what the other surprise was.
They had eaten lunch together, and Annabeth had disappeared for a couple of hours to take care of some last-minute things while Percy lounged around the apartment, trying to distract himself with Netflix.
Every now and then, he caught himself wondering about that mysterious second surprise. It had to be something big, knowing Annabeth.
By the time five-thirty rolled around, Percy was already dressed and ready to go to dinner, his mind buzzing with excitement.
He'd practiced his surprised face in the mirror a few times, just to make sure he wouldn't blow Annabeth's cover at the party. He figured he had it down pretty well, though it was probably a good thing no one could see him doing it.
Annabeth emerged from the bedroom, looking stunning in a simple but elegant dress, her blonde curls tied up in a loose bun. Percy smiled, his thoughts about the surprise momentarily forgotten.
"You look amazing," he said, walking up to her and pulling her into a hug. Annabeth leaned into him, giving him a soft smile.
"You don't look too bad yourself, Seaweed Brain," she teased. "Ready to go?"
"As ready as I'll ever be," Percy replied with a grin. He couldn't help but feel a bit nervous, knowing that the rest of the gang was probably already setting up at the restaurant.
The two of them stepped out into the cool evening air, and Percy glanced at Annabeth, curious about her confident, almost too-casual demeanor. She was up to something. And as much as he tried to play it cool, he couldn't stop himself from imagining what was coming.
They arrived at the restaurant exactly at six, just as planned. Percy held the door open for Annabeth and immediately noticed the soft murmur of voices inside. He didn't have to be a demigod to know that something was up.
"Alright, remember," Annabeth whispered, squeezing his hand, "act surprised."
Percy shot her a playful wink, his nerves settling. "Don't worry, I'm a pro."
As they walked into the restaurant, Percy pretended not to notice the familiar figures crouched behind tables and booths, clearly trying to hide. He let Annabeth lead the way, her hand still in his, as they turned the corner into the main dining area.
"Surprise!" came the loud chorus of voices, and Percy immediately jumped, his eyes widening as he plastered on his best shocked expression.
"What?! No way!" Percy gasped, holding his hand to his chest in mock astonishment. "I had no idea!"
The room erupted into laughter, especially from Frank, who clapped Percy on the shoulder. "Yeah, right. You almost had us fooled, man."
"Don't blame me, it's your fault!" Percy shot back, grinning.
Annabeth rolled her eyes but gave Percy a quick wink, signaling that his performance had been good enough to pass. Sally approached with a big smile, holding the cake, and Percy's heart swelled with gratitude for the people in the room.
The night progressed with plenty of laughter, stories, and delicious food. Annabeth had been right - it was a perfect evening, even if the surprise had been spoiled.
Percy was surrounded by his closest friends and family, and the warmth of their company made everything feel just right.
As the night started to wind down, Percy noticed Annabeth slipping away from the group and heading toward the door. Curious, he followed her outside, finding her standing on the sidewalk, gazing up at the stars.
"Hey," Percy said, approaching her. "You okay?"
Annabeth turned to him with a mischievous smile. "Oh, I'm great. Just thought it was time for your second surprise."
Percy raised an eyebrow. "Okay, I've been dying to know what this is. What are you up to, Wise Girl?"
Annabeth reached into her purse and pulled out an envelope. She handed it to Percy, watching his reaction carefully.
"Go on. Open it."
Percy took the envelope and ripped it open, pulling out two pieces of paper. As he read them, his eyes widened in disbelief.
"Are these... plane tickets?" he asked, looking up at Annabeth.
"Yup," she said, her smile widening. "For next week. We're going to Miami. Just you and me, Seaweed Brain. I figured after everything we've been through, we could use a vacation."
Percy was speechless for a moment, staring at the tickets in his hand. "Annabeth, this is... this is amazing. I don't know what to say."
"You don't have to say anything," Annabeth replied, stepping closer and wrapping her arms around his neck. "Just promise me you'll actually relax and enjoy it."
Percy laughed, pulling her into a tight hug. "Only if you're there with me."
"Always," she whispered against his chest.
And that, he decided, was the best birthday of all.
