__________________________From the moment Annabeth Chase first laid eyes on Percy Jackson, she knew he was different. She had heard whispers about him for years — the son of Poseidon who would change everything.
But seeing him in person, dazed and confused in that hospital bed at Camp Half-Blood, was something else entirely. She didn’t know why she was so intrigued by him. Maybe it was because of the prophecy, or perhaps because he had managed to survive something that should have killed him. Either way, she kept her distance.
She had been burned before, by friends and by fate. But there was something about him that tugged at her, something that made her feel connected in a way she hadn’t expected.
For Percy, meeting Annabeth was overwhelming. He had just discovered he was a demigod, that gods and monsters were real, and now he had to contend with this girl who looked at him like she was solving a puzzle.
She was intimidating, not just because of her intelligence, but because she seemed so sure of herself. Percy, on the other hand, was stumbling through this new world of prophecies and monsters.
Annabeth was different from anyone he had ever met — smart, quick, and more than a little scary. But there was something about her that he couldn’t help but like, even if they bickered more than they got along.
Their first quest together was where everything began. Annabeth had volunteered to go with him, and although she was only twelve, she took the role of leader seriously. Percy admired that about her, even if he didn’t always show it.
Annabeth was his guide through this new world, and he relied on her more than he let on. She always seemed to know what to do, always had a plan.
Percy’s impulsiveness frustrated her, but Annabeth also secretly admired how he could leap into danger without hesitation. She didn’t understand how he could be so brave, so loyal to people he had just met.
Maybe that’s what first drew her to him — his unwavering sense of loyalty.
Through the quest, Percy began to trust Annabeth more than anyone else. He didn’t know why, but something about her made him feel safe. She had his back, even when he made mistakes, and she was always there to offer a solution when things went wrong.
For Annabeth, it was hard not to admire Percy’s courage, even if it came from a place of recklessness. She had spent years at Camp Half-Blood, training and studying, but Percy showed her there was more to being a hero than planning and strategy. His instinct, his ability to connect with people, made him different from anyone else.
By the end of their first quest, something had shifted between them. Annabeth tried to ignore it, but she couldn’t deny the fact that she cared about Percy in a way she hadn’t cared about anyone before. He was infuriating, reckless, and impulsive, but he had also become one of her closest friends.
For Percy, the feeling was mutual. He didn’t know when it had happened, but at some point during the quest, Annabeth had become someone he couldn’t imagine not having by his side.
Their relationship grew more complicated after that first quest. Percy spent the school year away from Camp Half-Blood, and Annabeth continued her own quests. Every time they were separated, it felt wrong, like something was missing. But they never talked about it.
Percy had a lot to deal with — prophecies, monsters, and his complicated future — and Annabeth wasn’t one to wear her heart on her sleeve.
But every time they reunited at camp, there was that unspoken understanding between them. They bickered constantly, but the connection was always there, just beneath the surface.
