By me. AU.

Percy Jackson and Piper McLean were practically inseparable. They skated through the halls of Olympus High like they owned the place, with their easy-going charm and bold personalities.

Whether it was tossing jokes back and forth, or dramatically throwing their arms around each other in a flirtatious display, everyone knew when Percy and Piper entered a room. Their confidence was intoxicating, and it wasn’t unusual to see people blush at their audacity.

They weren’t just skating partners, they were flirting partners too. Piper would sidle up to Percy, batting her eyelashes playfully as she teased him about his messy hair.

Percy would throw an arm over her shoulder, pulling her close enough to make it seem like something more was happening, then wink at the crowd just to turn up the heat.

It was all harmless fun though because hidden beneath all the laughter and cheeky flirting, they both had their eyes on different people.

Annabeth Chase and Jason Grace were the complete opposite of Percy and Piper. They were the quiet, brainy types who spent their lunch breaks at the library, hunched over textbooks or discussing the latest math problems that no one else seemed to understand.

Annabeth, with her wild curls tied into a messy bun, was always focused, sharp eyes scanning equations with intensity. Jason, ever composed, would lean over her shoulder, the two of them working in perfect sync, completely immersed in their own world.

They rarely interacted with Percy and Piper, at least not on the surface. But Percy had a not-so-secret crush on Annabeth, while Piper had been head-over-heels for Jason for as long as she could remember.

They just didn’t know how to approach their brainy counterparts without messing up the perfect dynamic they had with each other.

One afternoon, after yet another skating session that ended with Piper pulling Percy into a ridiculous dip on the quad, Percy noticed Annabeth and Jason sitting under a tree, books open as usual. He smirked, nudging Piper.

“Let’s go say hi to the brainiacs,” Percy suggested, his eyes flicking over to Annabeth. He loved teasing her, though she usually just rolled her eyes at him.

Piper raised an eyebrow. “Why not? I could use a little Jason eye candy in my day.”

They skated over, stopping just shy of where Annabeth and Jason sat. Percy threw his board onto the grass and flopped down beside Annabeth, leaning back on his elbows. Piper, equally bold, plopped herself down right next to Jason, her legs stretching out in front of her.

“Hey, nerds,” Percy greeted with a grin. “What’s all this math about? Thought you'd be doing something exciting like... cross-referencing dictionaries.”

Annabeth glanced up from her book, her brow raised. “Not all of us spend our afternoons skating like a maniac, Jackson.”

Piper let out a laugh, playfully nudging Jason’s arm. “You’re just jealous because you can’t skate as well as us.”

Jason pushed his glasses up his nose, a small smile tugging at his lips. “Oh yeah? Maybe because we’ve got better things to do, like not breaking our necks.”

Percy rolled his eyes dramatically. “Annabeth, don’t tell me you’ve never wanted to let loose and try it. Come on, I’ll teach you. It’s all about balance—like solving an equation, just way more fun.”

Annabeth snorted, but there was a flicker of amusement in her eyes. “I’ll pass. I like having all my bones intact, thank you.”

Piper leaned closer to Jason, her arm brushing against his as she said, “What about you, Sparky? You seem like the kind of guy who’d secretly love the thrill of skating at full speed. Bet you could keep up with me.”

Jason’s ears turned a little pink, but he kept his cool. “Maybe,” he said, voice calm. “But I doubt I could keep up with you.”

Piper’s smile grew wider, her heart skipping a beat. “Oh, I dunno. I think you could surprise me.”

Percy, sensing the shift in the conversation, sat up a little straighter, turning his attention back to Annabeth. “You know, you might be missing out on something fun. Skating isn’t all that dangerous if you have the right person teaching you.”

Annabeth glanced sideways at him, her eyes locking with his for a second longer than usual. “You volunteering?”

“Any time,” Percy said smoothly, offering her a wink that made even Annabeth Chase blush slightly.

Piper, meanwhile, had taken Jason’s notebook and was flipping through it casually. “Math, huh?” she said. “Maybe you can teach me something, too. I’m sure you’re great at... solving problems.” Her voice dipped suggestively, making Jason chuckle despite himself.

“I might be able to help with that,” he responded, matching her tone.

The four of them sat there for a while, the line between teasing and genuine interest blurring more than ever. Percy kept sneaking glances at Annabeth, his heart thumping a little faster each time she gave him that half-smile that drove him crazy.

Piper’s attention stayed firmly on Jason, her flirtatious banter hiding the fact that she was already planning how to ask him to the next big school event.

As the sun started to set, Annabeth finally stood up, brushing the grass off her jeans. “Well, as fun as this has been, we’ve got homework to finish.”

“Don’t work too hard, Wise Girl,” Percy called after her, earning a quick eye-roll in response.

Jason got up as well, offering Piper a small smile. “See you around, McLean. Maybe you can teach me to skate sometime.”

Piper’s grin was wide and triumphant. “Count on it.”

As Annabeth and Jason walked away, Percy and Piper exchanged a knowing look. Their playful flirting wasn’t just for show anymore—there was something more beneath it all. And they both knew exactly who they were aiming for next.
