By me.

That evening, the awkwardness was becoming unbearable. Both Percy and Annabeth knew they couldn’t go on like this. After a day full of teasing and avoiding each other, they both came to the same conclusion.

They needed to talk, to clear the air. So, as the sun began to set over Camp Half-Blood, they each set out toward the other’s cabin.

Halfway between the Athena and Poseidon cabins, they met. Neither had expected to see the other there, and for a moment, they both just stood in awkward silence.

"Hey," Percy said, rubbing the back of his neck nervously.

"Hey," Annabeth replied, shifting her weight from one foot to the other.

The tension hung in the air like a thick fog. Percy swallowed, his heart racing, but this time it wasn’t from embarrassment. It was something else—something that had been building for a long time but had only come to the surface after last night’s accidental confession.

Before he could second-guess himself, before he could even think about it, Percy suddenly dropped to one knee.

Annabeth’s eyes widened in shock. "What are you doing?"

“I don’t know!” Percy blurted out, his voice both confident and panicked at the same time. “I mean—Annabeth, will you—will you be my girlfriend?”

The words tumbled out before he could stop them, and for a split second, the world seemed to freeze. Percy, still on his knees, stared up at her with wide eyes, realizing what he had just done. Did I seriously just propose that? What am I even doing?

Annabeth stood there, her mouth slightly open in surprise. She hadn’t expected him to be so bold—confident even.

But the thing that caught her off guard the most wasn’t that Percy had asked—it was that he meant it. She could see it in his eyes. Despite the surprise, there was no hesitation in his voice.

For a moment, neither of them moved. Then, slowly, Annabeth smiled, her heart swelling with something warm and familiar.

Percy was still Percy—awkward, brave, and a little bit clueless—but he was also the boy she had grown closer to with each passing quest, each battle, and each quiet moment in between.

"Yes," she whispered, her voice soft but sure.

Percy blinked, as if he couldn’t believe his ears. "Wait—really?"

"Yes," she repeated, a little louder this time, her smile growing wider.

Without another word, Percy stood up, feeling a rush of relief and excitement all at once. He was grinning like an idiot, but he didn’t care. He took a step closer to Annabeth, and she didn’t pull away.

Instead, she leaned in.

And then, without thinking, Percy closed the gap between them, gently pressing his lips to hers. The kiss was soft, warm, and every bit as natural as breathing. For a moment, the world around them faded, leaving just the two of them—Percy and Annabeth, together at last.

What they didn’t know, however, was that they weren’t alone.

From behind a nearby tree, Thalia, Nico, Grover, and even Clarisse were peeking around, watching the entire scene unfold. Thalia’s eyes widened in surprise, while Nico’s jaw practically dropped.

"Did he just—?" Thalia started, but her words were cut off by Nico’s incredulous laughter.

"Did Percy just propose?" Grover whispered, shaking his head in disbelief. "I didn’t see that coming."

Clarisse, who was usually all about tough love and never missing an opportunity to mock Percy, actually smirked. "Well, would you look at that."

As Percy and Annabeth kissed, their friends quickly averted their eyes in mock modesty, pretending to cover their faces.

"Should we give them some privacy?" Thalia asked, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

"I’m scarred for life," Nico muttered, dramatically covering his eyes with his hands, though the grin on his face gave him away.

Grover chuckled. "I don’t think they care right now."

Eventually, Percy and Annabeth broke apart, their cheeks flushed and hearts still pounding. They looked at each other for a long moment, smiling like the two dorks they were, completely unaware of their spying friends.

Finally, Annabeth raised an eyebrow. "So, I guess this makes things less awkward, huh?"

"Definitely," Percy grinned, his heart feeling lighter than it had in a long time.
