Pranks & Passions

By me.

The early morning sunlight filtered through the window of the Athena cabin, casting soft golden rays across the room.

Annabeth Chase was seated at her desk, nose buried in blueprints, sketching furiously as she tried to perfect the plans for a new structure she had been working on for days.

Her mind, as usual, was lost in thought, solving problems, calculating angles.

That was, until Percy Jackson walked in.

“Hey, Wise Girl,” Percy said casually, leaning against the doorframe with a smile that never failed to send her heartbeat racing—though she would never admit it.

She glanced up at him, one eyebrow arched. “Seaweed Brain. What’s up?”

Percy seemed different this morning. There was no sign of his usual joking tone or mischievous grin.

He wasn’t holding a water balloon, bucket of glitter, or any other remnants of their prank war that had been raging on for weeks.

Instead, his sea-green eyes were focused entirely on her, and there was a kind of intensity behind them that made her stomach flutter.

“I’m in love with you,” he blurted out, as if the words had been building up for a while and had finally forced their way out.

Annabeth blinked.

Her heart skipped a beat, and for a moment, she was certain she’d misheard him. A stunned silence hung between them, and Percy waited for her response with an expression that hovered between nervousness and hope.

Then, her mind clicked back into gear, and she frowned. “We called off the prank war last night at midnight, dork.”

Percy chuckled nervously, running a hand through his tousled black hair. “I know.”

She stared at him, completely thrown off. “Ah... okay.”

He took a step forward, standing in the middle of the cabin now, hands in his pockets as he shifted awkwardly, waiting for her reaction.

Annabeth, usually quick to come up with witty retorts, felt her brain freeze. This wasn’t how it was supposed to go.

They bantered, teased each other, traded sarcastic remarks—confessions of love weren’t part of the script.

Annabeth swallowed, forcing herself to stay calm. “You’re serious?”

“As serious as I’ve ever been.” His voice was low, his gaze soft but unwavering. “I’ve been wanting to tell you for a while now, but every time I tried, I’d just mess it up or chicken out. But I can’t keep it to myself anymore.”

She felt her heart pounding in her chest, and her fingers gripped the edge of her desk. This was Percy Jackson—her Seaweed Brain.

The boy who’d driven her crazy since they were twelve, who’d been by her side through monster attacks, quests, near-death experiences, and more.

Somewhere along the way, she’d realized how much he meant to her. But hearing him say it out loud was... terrifying and exhilarating at the same time.

“Percy...” she began, but the words stuck in her throat. For once, she didn’t know what to say.

Percy took another step closer, now standing right in front of her.

“You don’t have to say anything, Wise Girl. I just wanted you to know.”

Annabeth stared up at him, her breath catching in her throat as her heart raced even faster. The warmth of his touch sent a shiver down her spine, and suddenly, it all clicked into place.

She was in love with him too.

Taking a deep breath, she stood up, closing the small distance between them. “You’re such a Seaweed Brain, you know that?” she said softly, her lips curving into a smile.

Percy’s grin widened, but before he could say anything else, she grabbed the front of his shirt and pulled him down into a kiss.

It was gentle at first, tentative even, but as Percy responded, wrapping his arms around her, the kiss deepened. All the pent-up emotions, the years of friendship, teasing, and unspoken feelings, finally found their way into that one perfect moment.

When they pulled away, both of them were breathless, and Annabeth’s cheeks were flushed. She looked into Percy’s eyes, feeling a giddiness she hadn’t expected.

“I guess this means the prank war is officially over,” Percy whispered, leaning his forehead against hers.

Annabeth laughed, shaking her head. “Don’t get too comfortable, Jackson. We’ll start another one soon enough.”

Percy chuckled, holding her close. “As long as you’re on my team.”

“Always.”

And just like that, in the quiet morning light, their world shifted—filled with new possibilities, but with the same bond that had always kept them together.
