Anaesthesia

"You okay, Percy?"

Silence.

Annabeth rolls her eyes, grin playing at her lips as she looks at the man beside her. He's staring at her, sure— but he's not saying anything.

"How're you holding up?" She asks again, this time a bit more lighter, "The anaesthesia having any effect?"

"So pretty," Percy mumbles under his breath. (does he think she can't hear him?)

Yeah. The anaesthesia definitely has an effect on him.

"You're so pretty," He mumbles again, a little louder and a little shocked. "Why am I... in a car with you?"

Annabeth laughs. "We'll be home soon, love. Just a few more minutes."

"You mean I know you?" Percy says a little incredulously, "We have a home?"

"Yes, Percy. We have a home."

"Oh." At this, Percy tenses. His eyes flick towards he every few seconds, like he's itching to say something.

Annabeth wants to take a picture and save it for later. His messy hair falls over his eyes as he continues to look at her, mouth slightly agape. It's a cute moment— and Annabeth wishes she could pause time.

He says something under his breath.

"Sorry," Annabeth looks over at him, "What'd you say?"

"Are we... um..." Percy looks down at his lap as a blush spreads across his face. "Are we together?"

She smiles softly. "If you mean married, than yes. We're married." Annabeth holds up her hand for him to see: gold band shinning on her ring finger.

When he looks down, he finds a similar gold band: A simple ring with their initials engraved on.

His smile has never been so bright.

(Except for the day when they got married, of course.)

When Annabeth finds the car silent again, she clears her throat. "The dentist said to rest easy. You probably feel really sleepy, so it's better if you doze off right now." she says.

"I'm s-so lucky," Percy sputters, "So lucky!"

"The feeling is mutual," Annabeth grins, "Now go to sleep, Seaweed Brain."

Percy falls asleep with one of the biggest and goofiest smiles she's ever seen him have.

(And since she's seen him smile countless times, that's saying something)
