It was getting late, and we were almost to the Hilltop when I saw Daryl stop his bike. I parked mine next to his, wondering why the hell we're stopping when I could be at Hilltop cuddling my babies.
All four of us got off the bikes when Jesus spoke to us. "We're close enough now. We should ditch the bikes and walk back."
"Why would we do that?" Sebastian asked him. I personally think that's a great question. I just want to get there fast.
"If the Saviors come to the hilltop and see the bikes, they will know that we've seen you three. They will be able to piece together that our communities are working together. They can't know that."
"Alright.." Daryl groaned. "Let's hide 'em."
I sighed as I dragged the bike I was driving into the woods alongside Daryl, Jesus, and Seb. Luckily we were able to find some wild bushes to hide them in. On our way back to the road, I stepped on something sharp and I was suddenly regretting tossing my heels away before fleeing the complex.
When I winced in pain from whatever item just entered my foot, Everybody around me stopped. I leaned up against a tree, when Jesus pulled out a flashlight. I held my foot up and looked at it when he came up with his flashlight to inspect it.
"It's just a piece of glass." Jesus told me before removing it from my foot. "Thankfully it wasn't deep."
"Okay, cool. Let's keep going." I mumble before trying to walk past them but all three of them stopped me.
Jesus sighed. "Where are your shoes?"
"She had to ditch them." Seb answered. "They were clicking too loud on the floor. They could've prevented our escape."
"Ya can't walk without shoes." Daryl told me.
"Well, I'm gonna." I shook my head and tried to walk past them again. None of them let me move from my spot. "What do you suggest I do then, huh? We just ditched the bikes. I'm gonna walk."
"Something else could impale your foot." Jesus warned me. "And that cut on your foot could get infected, it probably already is."
"I said, I'm walking." I growled at them.
"Nah.." Daryl said before turning around and bending down. "Hop on."
"No." I firmly told him when he offered to carry me. After everything that has happened in the past week, I don't want to be touched. Not at all. Especially not by the person who sent me into the snakes pit.
"I wasn't askin'." Daryl argued with me. "Get on, now."
"I said no."
"Damn it, Mae!" Daryl snapped at me. "Either ya get on my back or I throw you over my shoulder. Yer not walkin'."
"Yes I am." I told him in a harsh tone. When I went to walk away, he tried to grab me and my body involuntarily flinched away from him. "Don't." I growled while slapping his hand away from me. "Don't touch me."
"Mae!"
"Dad, give us a second." Sebastian told his father before standing in front of me and grabbing my hand. "Mom, we are safe. We escaped. I get why you don't want to be touched, but you can't walk without shoes. If you don't want Dad to touch you, maybe Jesus can carry you? I would, but I'm still a little too small for that."
"I can carry you.." Jesus offered before giving a sad glance to my husband. "If that's what you want."
I didn't move or say anything so Seb spoke again. "You have two options, Dad carries you or Jesus does. But you are not walking barefoot the rest of the way to the Hilltop. It's not happening."
