Alex came by and took the kids today, giving Austin and I the day off. Austin has been working on class work and sleeping on and off. Since I have had time to work on my class work I have been teaching myself to crochet. I think it is going pretty well, who knew you could learn so much in a day.
After a few hours I put everything up and grab a book I have been wanting to read and lay down on the couch with a cup of tea and start to read.
I am an hour into the book when I hear footsteps on the steps. I turn my head to the stairs and see Austin coming down. I smile and he smiles back at me. Things have gotten somewhat better. We don't walk around upset and angry all the time. Austin and I are in a good place right now. I don't know if we are together or what but I honestly don't care at this point. I still wear my engagement ring and he hasn't said anything about it. He comes over and lifts my legs up before sitting down then putting my legs across his lap. I place the bookmark in my book and place it on my belly. He looks at me and he looks exhausted and stressed. "Hey, what's wrong?" He shakes his head and yarns. "Did you get it all done?" He nods, "I never thought I would see the end of it but I finally finished." He smiles at me, "Want to go get something to eat?" I smile and nod, "Of course." He stands up and then helps me up. I fix my shirt and look at him in jeans and a t-shirt. "Do I need to change?" He shakes his head, "Nah, you look good." He grabs my hand and pulls me with him to the door and out to his car.
He pulls up to a Mexican restaurant and I smile. He parks and looks over at me, "This good with you?" I nod, "I have been craving tacos." He laughs and gets out of the car before coming over and helping me out even though I didn't need it. We walk in and I decided to get a burrito instead. Austin is filling his burrito up as I wait behind him. After paying we sit down at a table and start to eat.
"How are you feeling today?" I look up and take a drink of my drink. "I am good. They don't move or bother me have as much as Aiden and Aubrey did." He laughs, "You think that means they will listen more?" I laugh and shrug, "Probably not." He laughs and goes back to eating.
We finish eating and are walking back to the car when Austin grabs my hand and pulls me down the sidewalk. I look forward and stare up at him as he pulls me into a baby store. A lady comes over and smiles, "Can I help you two?" Austin shakes his head and pulls me through the store. He stops and smiles as he picks up two little blue leather jackets and two pairs of little skinny jean leggings. He turns to me and smiles, "A start." He walks to the cashier and pays. He grabs my hand and we walk back to the car.
Once in the car I turn to him, "Why did you buy those?" He smiles and turns to me, "Because I have not been acting like a good friend, fiancée or anything. I know you made a mistake and it is something that we can't forget but we have to try to move on from it. I have to move on from it. We have two little babies that will be here in a few months and they are innocent in all of this. They deserve to be loved and cherished. They don't deserve to have a dad that is around but barely talks to their mom. We are a family no matter what happens. Buying those outfits was a way of me saying it is a start with buying them things and a start at making this work and being better." I smile and lean in for a hug which he returns.
He pulls away and starts the car up before backing out and heading home. He turns on the radio and a few good songs pass before one catches me by surprise. As soon as the voice starts it is recognizable to me immediately. All attention goes to the lyrics as I listen to his first single from his new album that he has been so secretive about.
Walking round with my head down
But I can't hide with these shoes on
Downtown in a thick crowd
But it's just you that my mind is on
Dressed up, got my heart messed up
You got yours and I got mine
It's unfair that I still care
And I wonder where you are tonight
Thinking it could be different
But maybe we missed it yea
Thinking it could be differentIt could, it couldIt should've been us
Shoulda been a fire, shoulda been the perfect storm
It should've been us
Coulda been the real thing, now we'll never know for sure, ooh
We were crazy, but amazing, baby we both knowIt should've been us, us
It, it, it should've been usBack and forth like a tug of war
What's it all for, do I want it backI still got a little flame for ya
Even though you drove me mad
Now and then, I pretend
That it's you when I close my eyes
You got yours, I got mine
But I wonder where you are tonightIt should've been us
Shoulda been a fire, shoulda been the perfect storm
It should've been us
Coulda been the real thing, now we'll never know for sure, ooh
We were crazy, but amazing, baby we both knowIt should've been us, us
It, it, it should've been us
Oh oh, oh ohIt should've been us, yeah
Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh ohOh oh, oh ohIt should've been us
It, it, it should've been us
Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh oh oh
Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh oh
Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh oh oh
Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh ohThinking it could be different
But maybe we missed it
Thinking it could be different
It could, it couldIt should've been us
Shoulda been a fire, shoulda been the perfect storm
It should've been us
Coulda been the real thing, now we'll never know for sure, ooh
We were crazy, but amazing, baby we both know
It should've been us, usIt, it, it should've been us
Oh oh, oh ohIt should've been us, yeah
Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh ohOh oh, oh oh
It should've been us
It, it, it should've been us
Oh oh, oh ohIt should've been us
Oh oh, oh ohYou know it should've been us
Oh oh, oh ohIt should've been us
It, it, it should've been usThe song ends as we pull into the driveway. Austin cuts the car off and looks at me, "That was..." I nod, "Yep. Alex's new song." He nods and grabs the bag as he gets out of the car. I get out and make my way inside not being able to get those lyrics out of my head.
I did change one word in the song. The second line actually reads high heels instead of shoes. I do not owe this song. It is by Tori Kelly
