Today has been one bad thing after another, making me want to just curl up in bed. Thinking about my warm comfy bed while stuck at work made me sigh. This morning on the way into work, my coffee spilled all over my clothes. It made me slightly late to work because I had to go all the way back home to change. Then most of my patients have been rude to me all day.

My shift ends in two hours but it feels like twenty. People that know me would typically say I'm a happy bubbly person but not today. My mood has been down all day, making me more irritated and upset. It's great having a boyfriend like Connor though. He has tried cheering me up all day to no avail.

Right now the ED is kind of slow with only a few patients. None of them are mine so I'm standing at the front desk going over some paperwork.

"Excuse me," I hear and lift my head to see a guy with his son standing in front of me.

"Hi how can I hel-" I start but he cuts me off.

"I've been waiting in that damn waiting room for the last hour and a half! My son keeps telling me he can't breathe so one of you needs to do your job!" He yells. My mood is already low, so this is making it worse. I suck in a deep breath, trying to stay calm with him. This isn't the time or place for me to lose my cool.

"I'm sorry. They should have found you a room by now. Please follow me and I'll get you roomed." I apologized as if this is my fault. He rolls his eyes as I stand outside the door, letting them enter. Maggie assigns a doctor to them and tells me to go take a break for a minute. She knows how stressed I've been.

I make my way into the break room and take some deep breaths. "It's going to be okay" is the one sentence I keep repeating over and over in my head. It's one bad day, not a bad life. Everyone has bad days some times. I'm so lost in thought that I didn't hear anyone calling my name until feeling a tap on my shoulder.

I turn and see Connor standing there looking at me, worriedly. He wraps his arm around my waist and holds me close to him. "Are you okay?" He asks.

"I'm fine." I lie, not wanting to bother him with my problems. He hates when I hide my feelings from him but it makes me feel bad.

"You don't look fine." He raises an eyebrow at me.

"Then stop looking." I reply. He gives me a smile and without saying a word, holds me in a long hug. It's one that I didn't know I needed until now. We're like that for a moment until pulling away.

"I don't care what time of day or night, you can always talk to me, y/n." He reassures. I nod my head understandingly. He leaves a kiss on my forehead then pulls away. His words helped me get through the rest of my shift. He doesn't get off for a while so he told me to head home and take a bath, with the promise of him bringing dinner and a movie.

I'm serious when saying he is the most amazing person in my life. It's things like this that make me feel so special even on days like this. Some times it feels like I don't deserve someone like him. That makes me feel all the more grateful. When getting home later, we snuggled up on the couch, under a warm blanket and turned on a movie.

We had popcorn and pizza, which all made this horrible day just disappear. He held me close as my head rested on his shoulder. "Thank you for tonight, it really helped." I smile.

"Of course. It's my job to make you feel better." He says, holding me a little tighter. I'm really the luckiest girl in the world.
