Not Together »» Kelly Severide

My eyes watched as he slams the door of the truck, storming off. A sigh leaves my mouth when making my way to the bathroom. Sylvie follows, trying to assure me that it's not my fault. We just got back from saving an elderly couple in their burning house. Gladly they're both okay and no serious injuries. But Kelly is ready to rip my head off after he gave me an order I didn't follow.

There's good reason for that too though. He asked me to worry about getting the woman out of the house. But if I didn't try to save her husband, the ceiling would have caved in on him. For the past three years of our relationship, Kelly and I have had our fair share of fights, but this time is different. He's recently been promoted, making him my boss. Now he feels the stress, having to tell his girlfriend what to do.

If it weren't for me saving him, they both might be dead right now. When getting into the bathroom, I splash some water on my face. Sylvie leans against the wall, waiting for me to look over at her. When we make eye contact, she speaks. "Are you okay?" She asks. She is obviously referring to when Kelly yelled at me in front of everyone. It was embarrassing but I'm not mad. He was only doing his job.

It wouldn't be fair of him to give me special treatment because we're dating. I nod and lean against the sink. "I'm fine. I just think we need to talk." I tell her. She assures me it's going to be fine. Just as I'm about to head to his office, Violet tells me that Boden wants to see me in his office. This feels like a kid getting called into the principals office. It always makes me nervous.

When entering the room, I notice Kelly already there. Boden asks us to sit, so we do. When the three of us are seated, he starts talking. "It's no secret you're both together," he starts. I glance at Kelly, to see he's already looking at me before shifting my attention back on Boden.

"But you two cannot let your relationship get in the way of your work." He tells us.

"It won't because we aren't together anymore." Kelly says, making my heart sink into my stomach. I look at him but he refuses to look over at me. It was one stupid fight. How could he just end things like that?

"I'm sorry to hear that." Boden says before excusing us. Kelly gets up and leaves the room. Feeling like my heart has stopped, I get up and exit the office. On my way down the hallway, a hand grabs my arm, pulling me back. I turn and see Kelly standing there. He wraps one arm around my waist, cupping my cheek with the other.

"What the hell? Why did you tell him we were over?" I ask.

"Because it's better to keep us a secret. I don't want our jobs to ruin what we've got." He tells me while caressing my cheek.

"Don't do that again without telling me first. I thought you really wanted to end things." I playfully glare. He chuckles and pulls me closer to him, placing a sweet kiss on my lips. Happily, I kiss him back. His grip on me had tightened until we hear someone coming and pull completely away from each other.

"I love you, and I'll do whatever it takes to keep us together." He says to me. I smile at his words.

"I love you too."

By the end of the day, the word had gotten around that we were broken up. People, especially my friends, kept telling me how sorry they are. But when no one is looking, Kelly and I would steal glances at each other. When everyone has went to bed, I quietly made my way into his office where he asked me to meet him earlier.

Carefully, I close the door behind me and see him standing there waiting for me. Once the door is closed, he waste no time in cupping both my cheeks, kissing me. This wasn't like before though, no this kiss was more needy. I smile into the kiss before we pull away. "Is this what you called me in here for?" I tease. 

"Maybe." He shrugs. It made me chuckle, pulling him in for one more kiss. The door had suddenly opened, causing us to pull apart. A shy smile appears on my face seeing Boden.

"Not together huh?" He raises an eyebrow. Well this just got more complicated.
