You and Charlie have been playing hockey together for years now. You both have a strong passion for the sport, spending countless hours practicing and perfecting your skills. The two of you have formed a tight bond over your shared love for the game and have become great friends.
One day, during a particularly intense game, the puck suddenly ricochets off the boards and heads straight towards you. Without thinking, you lean forward to try and catch it, but at that exact moment, Charlie leans in to do the same thing. Your lips meet in a soft, accidental kiss.
You both jump back, startled, but before you can say anything, Charlie speaks up. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-"
But you cut him off, your heart pounding in your chest. "No, it's okay. I mean, it was just an accident, right?" You try to play it off cool, but your mind is racing, wondering what this means for your friendship.
Charlie looks at you, his eyes searching yours. "Yeah, just an accident," he says, but there's a hint of something else in his voice that you can't quite place.
The rest of the game goes by in a blur, but you can't stop thinking about that accidental kiss. You replay the moment in your head, trying to make sense of your feelings.
After the game, you and Charlie sit on the bench, watching as the other players clear the ice. The air is thick with tension, and for a moment, neither of you say anything.
Finally, Charlie speaks up. "I know we can never be together, even if we liked each other," he says, his voice barely above a whisper. "But I just wanted you to know that...I do like you. A lot."
Your heart swells with emotion, and you turn to face him. "I like you too, Charlie. More than I should, probably."
He smiles at you, a soft, sweet smile that makes your heart skip a beat. "I know. But even if we can't be together, I'm glad we're still friends."
You nod, knowing that he's right. Your friendship means everything to you, and you wouldn't risk losing it for anything.
As you both stand up to leave, Charlie takes your hand in his and gives it a gentle squeeze. "Accidental kiss or not, you'll always be special to me," he says, before turning to walk away.
You watch him go, feeling a sense of longing deep within your chest. But you know that no matter what happens, you'll always cherish the memory of that accidental kiss, and the special bond that you and Charlie share.
